The Will of James Elliot Hobson

 

This is the Last Will and Testament of me JAMES ELLIOT HOBSON of Bedburn in the County of Durham as follows. Whereas WILLIAM DODDS of Bedburn aforesaid has invented a Smoke Jack and the said JAMES ELLIOT HOBSON has undertaken to procure a Patent for securing the vending of the same, Now in Consideration thereof it is mutually agreed between the said parties that the said JAMES ELLIOT HOBSON shall have one moiety or full half share in the profits arising from the sale thereof according to an agreement made between the said parties. I hereby give and bequeath my aforesaid share in the said Smoke Jack unto my nephew EDWARD MIDDLETON. I also give unto my Uncle JACK WALTON ELLIOT of Gainford £100 and my Black Horse. And as to all the rest and residue of my Personal Effects whatsoever and wheresoever (after payments of my Debts and Funeral expences and proving this will) I give and bequeath unto my sisters ELIZABETH HOBSON and MARY HOBSON to share equally between them. And I appoint my Uncle JOHN WALTON ELLIOT sole executor of this my Last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have this 8 April 1814 set my hand and seal
