The Will of Martin Hoath

 

This is the last Will and Testament of me Martin Hoath of Crowhurst in the County of Surrey Joiner I direct all my just Debts Funeral and Testamentary Expences to be paid with all convenient speed after my decease I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Susanna All my household furniture plate linen and china and books to and for her own absolute use and disposal And I give and bequeath unto my said wife All the Rest Residue and Remainder of my personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kindsoever which I shall be possessed of interested in or entitled unto at the time of my decease for and during the term of her natural life or so long thereof as she shall remain my widow and unmarried for the support of herself and the maintenance education and bringing up of all my children or such of them as may want assistance And from and immediately after her decease or second marriage (which shall first happen) I give and bequeath unto each of my sons the sum of four hundred pounds and to each of my daughters the sum of two hundred pounds to be paid to them respectively within twelve months next after such event shall happen And I give and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate and effects unto and amongst all and every my said children share and share like to be paid to them respectively within twelve months next after the decease or second marriage of my said wife if the leases of the Farms called Oldhurst and West Farms now used by me shall then be expired if not to be postponed till that event shall happen But I will order and direst that the interest of the legacies or shares of such of my said children as shall not have attained the age of twenty one years shall be paid and applied for and towards their support and maintenance until they shall have respectively attained such age And I do hereby direct that in case any or either of my said Children shall happen to die in my lifetime or before his her or their legacies or shares shall become due and payable leaving issue of his her or their body or bodies lawfully begotten that the legacy or share or legacies or shares shall be paid and equally divided between his her or their issue share and share alike if more than one in equal shares and if but one unto such only Child Lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said wife and my son James Executors of this my Will and I direct that my son James shall retain fifteen pounds and that he shall be paid his reasonable Expences and for his time and trouble in execution of this my Will And I revoke all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made and declare this only to be and contain my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Martin Hoath have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand affixed my seal this second day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty six _ Martin Hoath
