The Will of Jeffery Hicks of Seend in the County of Wilts and Diocese of Sarum


This is the last Will and Testament of me Jeffery Hicks of Seend in the County of Wilts Baker as ffolloweth ffirst I give and Devise to my Grandson Roger Hicks

All that Messuage or Tenement Garden Orchard and the Appurtenances now divided into Tenements in Seend Row now Let to Richard Smart and John Crook

To hold the same unto the said Roger Hicks his Heirs and Assigns for Ever Also I give and Devise to my son John Hicks and my Kinsman Thomas Bletchey and their Heirs All those my Two Dwelling Houses with the Out Houses Garden Orchard and Close adjoining and all other my Lands and Tenements in Seend in the County of Wilts together with all my Household Goods and ffurniture with the Utensils Mill Troughs and all the Implements belonging to the Baking Business In Trust only for the life of my Daughter in Law Jane Hicks so long as she shall continue a Widow and Unmarried and take care to Educate and bring up my Grandchildren And after her Marriage or Death which shall first happen then to my Grandson Thomas Hicks and his Issue Male and for Want of such Issue then to my Grandson Roger Hicks and his Issue Male and for Want of such Issue to their Brother John Hicks and his Heirs for Ever Also I give to my Son in Law John Brown all my Wearing Apparell of every sort Also I give to my Trustees John Hicks and Thomas Bletchey One Hundred and thirty Pounds In Trust for them to Place the same out at Interest on good security and to apply the Interest thereof to and for the Education of my Grandsons John and Roger and their Sister Grace Hicks untill she shall attain her Age of One and Twenty Years and then One Hundred Pounds of the Principal Money to be Paid to her the said Grace Hicks And the other Thirty Pounds to be equally divided between my Grandsons John the Son of my son John Hicks and John and Roger Sons of my Son Jeffery Hicks share and share alike And in Case either or any of my Grandchildren John Hicks John Hicks Roger Hicks and Grace Hicks dye before the said Grace Hicks shall attain the Age of One and Twenty Years then the Legacy of him her or them so dying shall go and be Paid to the Survivor and Survivors of them share and share alike Also I give and Devise to my Daughter Ann Brown All those my Two Tenements with the Gardens and Backsides thereto belonging as it is now divided and the Close ncalled Perry Croft in Trowbridge in the County of Wilts with the Appurtenances unto the said Ann Brown her Heirs for Ever And I Charge the said Tenements in Trowbridge with the Payment of the One Hundred and thirty Pounds in Case my Personall Estate shall be Deficient for that Purpose And I do make the said Ann Brown Sole Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 25th day of October 1751 Jeffery Hicks
