The Will of Margaret Henty

 

In the Name of God Amen This Twenty first day of June in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and Forty eight I Margaret Henty of the Parish of Portsea in the County of Southampton Widow being Sick and Weak in Body but of Sound Mind Perfect disposing Memory and Understanding thanks be to God for the same Do make and Ordain these presents to contain my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say First and Principally I give my Soul to God and my Body to the Earth to be decently interred at the Discretion of my Executrix herein after named And for and concerning my Worldly estate I give Devise bequeath and dispose thereof as followeth that is to say I give and devise All that my Messuage or Tenement with the appurtenences thereunto belonging Situate lying and being at the Corner of Butcher Row in the Parish of Portsea now in the tenure or Occupation of John Marvell unto my Friend and Aquaintance Mary Williams of Portsea aforesaid Spinster her Heirs and Assignes for and during all the rest residue and Remainder of the Term and Estate that shall be therein.... at the time of my Decease Also I give and Devise all that my other Messuage or Tenement with the appurtenances thereunto belonging situate in Butcher Row aforesaid and now in the Possession of Mr Thomas unto my late husband's neece Ann Coker Daughter of John Coker of Newport in the Isle of Wight & County aforesaid Brazier her Executors and assigns for and during the Remainder of the Term that shall have ....at the time of my Decease Also I give to her my Silver Tankard I give and bequeath unto the said John Coker the sum of Three Hundred Pounds including the Fifty pounds he owes me on Bond to be paid to him within One Year of my Decease Also I give and bequeath to my loving Sister Frances Boddington of Droghedra in Ireland Widow One Annuity or Yearly payment of ten pounds during her life to be paid to her by my Executrix hereafter named by half yearly Payments the first Payment to be met within Six Months next after my Decease Also I give and bequeath unto Mary Brewerton Widow the Sum of One Hundred Pounds towards the Support maintenance and bringing up of her Family to be paid to her within twelve months next after my Decease Also I give to such Poor Widows of the Parish of Portsea aforesaid as do not receive Alms or that are not kept by the said Parish the Sum of Two Pounds to be distributed to them in such manner and proportion as my Executrix hereinafter named shall think fitt Also I give to John Saunders One Guinea Also I give to Robt Eddowes Esq & to his Two Sons Mr Robert Eddowes & Mr John Eddowes & to each & every one of them One Gold Mourning Ring Also I give & bequeath all the rest and Remainder of my Estate and Effects of what nature or kind soever that I shall be possessed of interested in or entitled to at my decease after the Payment of my Debts The aforesaid Legacies & my Funeral Expences unto the said Mary Williams her heirs Executors & Assigns forever And I do hereby nominate constitute & appoint the said Mary Williams Sole Executrix of this my Will And lastly I do hereby revoke all former & other Wills at any time heretofore made In Testimony that this is my last Will I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written  Margaret Henty (X)
