The Will of Richard Heighes

 

In the name of God Amen.

 

The three and twentieth day of September, Anno Domini One thousand Six hundred and Eight. I Richard Heighes of Battle in the County of Sussex, being sick of body, but of perfect mind and body (thanks be to God) Do make my last Will and Testament in manner Following :

 

First I bequeath my Soul to almighty God my Maker and Redeemer, by whose [onely?] death and [passion ?] I have to be [????].

 

Item I give to the poor of the parish of Battle aforesaid, Five Shillings and Eight pence to be distributed upon the day of my Burial.

 

Item I give to my [Parents ?] Six Shillings and Eight pence a piece, to be paid within one month next after my decease.

 

All the residue of my Goods and Chattels [????] Gold [????] plate, jewels and implements of  [????] Gold whatsoever and ready money, my debts, legacies and funeral expenses discharged, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Mary, and to my two daughters Frances and Katherine, equally to be divided between them.

 

Provided always that my Will and meaning that my said wife shall have the [????] and Occupation of all my said Goods and Chattels [????] Gold [????] plate, jewels and implements of  [????] Gold aforesaid during her natural life.

 

And further my Will and meaning is that forthwith after my decease my Executors and Overseers  hereunder named do make an equal division of all my goods, chattels and other things before bequeathed to my wife and daughters, that hereby it may appear what is my wife’s and what is my daughter’s.

 

And of this my last Will and Testament, I make and Constitute my Brother-in-law Thomas [?uirent] Executor and my beloved friends John Clarke [????], William Booth and Edward Fylde my Overseers.

 

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the said date and year above written. John Gilbert, William [????] the mark of Robert Sergeant, Witness

 

Probate in Latin - Admon granted in London by William Bird to Thomas [?uirent], Executor.
