The Will of Stephen Hayter
In the Name of God Amen I Stephen Hayter of the Parish of Saint James in the Liberty of Westminster Yeoman being a little Impaired in health by reason of a Dropsy but of sound and disposing mind and memory praised be God for the same Do think fit to make this my last Will and Testament in manner following first
I commend my Soul into the hands of God and my body to
the Earth to be Interred at the discretion of my Executrix and as for such
worldly Goods as it hath pleased God to bless me with I give and bequeath as
follows Item I give unto my loving Mother Dorothy Hayter All such sum and
sums of money as I shall be possessed of at the time of my decease either in
ready money Mortgages Bonds Bills Notes or otherwise howsoever to support
her in old age Subject nevertheless that in case she shall be able in her
last hours to leave to the value of Thirty Pounds behind I do direct that
she leaves the same to my Brother William and my Sister Ann Hayter share and
share alike Item I give to my Brother Moses Sister Dorothy and Sister Sarah
One Shilling each and direct my Brother William to deliver over to my dear
Mother my Box with the securities I have for money in the same to her to
enable her to receive the same as Occasion shall require (to wit) a Bond of
fourteen pounds Principal money and about three Years Interest due from Jos
Simms a Note of Ten pounds due from Thomas Pope and a Note of Peter ffigg
for Thirteen Pounds Item I give the Holland Sheet and two Pillowcases in
that Box to my Sister Ann and all the residue of my Substance be the same
whatsoever I give and bequeath to my loving Mother Dorothy Hayter who I
appoint whole and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament And do
hereby revoke all former Wills by me heretofore made (particularly the Will
drawn for me by John Legatt) and declare this only to be my last Will and
Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the Twenty
second day of November One Thousand seven hundred and Thirty Eight Stephen
Hayter his marke. Signed Sealed and Published in the Presence of us
