In the name of God Amen April the nineteenth
day one thousand six hundred and eighty I Thomas Harrocks of Aughton
in the County of Lancaster husbandman being sick and weak but of
good memory and understanding praise be god for the same I do make
this my last will and testament in manner and form following. That
is to say and principally I bequeath my soul unto god my maker
hoping to find morty? (immortality?) through Jesus Christ my
redeemer and my body to Christian burial at the discretion if my
executors hereafter named. And touching my worldly goods my will
and mind is and I do give will and devise the same as followeth.
First my will is and I do hereby order and appoint that Elizabeth my
now wife shall have hold and enjoy the one half of my messuage and
tenement in Aughton where I now live and now in my possession held
for the same number of years determinable upon the death of the
lives mentioned in the same lease heretofore made by Mr Ireland from
the time of my decease during all the lifetime of Margaret my mother
for and towards her livelihood maintenance and the bringing up of my
children and after the decease of my said mother my further mind is
that my eldest son Roger and my said wife shall take a new lease
thereof and that my said son shall pay two thirds of the fine and my
said wife a third part if she be then living and that the said
tenement be divided into two parts one part for my said wifes use
for her life and the other part for my said son Roger and the whole
I define he may have after her decease. And whereas I have lately
took a lease of another tenement in Aughton now in the possession of
Jane Harrocks widow for seventy nine years after the decease of the
said Jane if the lives in the lease so long live my will is my said
wife shall have and seize a third part thereof when it falls if she
be living for her maintenance and the bringing up of my children.
And that the other two parts shall go equally among all my children
then living and the said third part after her decease. And touching
my goods and personal estate my will and mind is that my funeral
expenses be first taken out of my whole estate and the charge of
probate of this my will. And afterwards that my said goods and
personal estate be divided into three equal parts one part whereof I
give unto my said wife Elizabeth Harrocks and the two other parts I
bequeath unto and amongst my five children to wit Roger, John,
James, Jane and Daniel to be equally divided amongst them. And I
make and ordain my said wife Elizabeth Harrocks and my son Roger
Harrocks executors of this my last will and testament hoping they
will see the same truly performed. In witness whereof I have
hereunto put my hand and seal the day and year first above written.
