The Will of John Hannell
In the Name of God Amen I John Hannell Citizen and
Weaver of London being weak in body but of sound and disposing Mind and
Memory praised be Almighty God for the same do make and ordain this my last
Will and Testament in manner and fform following And first and principally I
commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my heavenly ffather trusting
through the alone Meritts of my dear Lord and Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ
to obtain a glorious Resurrection and a blessed Eternity and my Body I
commit to the Earth to be decently buryed at the discretion of my Executor
and Executrix hereinafter named And as for such temporal Estate as God hath
been graciously pleased to bestow upon me I give devise and bequeath the
same as followeth Imprimis I give and confirm unto my loving Wife Bithia
Hannell one third part of all my personal Estate (the same in three equal
parts to be divided according to the ancient Custom of London Item I give
and confirm one third part of my personal Estate unto and amongst all and
every my Children whom shall be living at the time of my decease to be
equally divided between them according to the said Custom Share and Share
alike And as to the remaining third part of my said Personal estate which I
have power to dispose of by the said Custom I do give and dispose of the
same as hereinafter mentioned that is to say I give and bequeath unto my
eldest Son Charles Hannell the sum of Sixty pounds of lawful money of Great
Britain Item I give unto my Son John Hannell the sum of fforty pounds of
like lawful Money Item I give unto my Son William Hannell the Sum of Sixty
pounds Item I give unto my Daughter Mary the Wife of Elisha Bentley the Sum
of Seventy Pounds to be paid into her own hands for her sole and separate
use for which her Receipt alone shall be a good discharge unto my Executors
It being my Will and Meaning that the said Elisha Bentley shall not in any
wise intermeddle with the Same or the Interest or produce thereof Item I
give unto my other Daughters Susanna Mehetable and Elizabeth Hannell the Sum
of Eighty Pounds apiece And my Will is that all and every the Legacys
hereinbefore given shall be raised out of my Estate and paid to the several
persons above named within one year next after my decease Item my Will and
Meaning is and I hereby direct that my said Wife Bithia Hannell shall have
the good Will of my Trade and hold the Lease of my dwelling house for the
Remainder of the Term of Years which I shall have therein at the time of my
decease she paying and allowing the Sum of One Hundred pounds for the same
which shall be deducted out of her customary Share of my estate upon the
Division thereof Item I give devise and bequeath all and every the Rest
residue and Remainder of the said lsat mentioned third part of my personal
Estate and my Reall Estate whatsoever unto my said loving Wife Bethia
Hannell her Heirs Executors and Administrators And I hereby make constitute
and appoint my friend Mr Benjamin Noble and my said Wife Executor and
Executrix of this my last Will and revoke all former Wills by me at any time
heretofore made In Witness whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament
set my hand and seal the one and twentieth day of June Anno Dm 1732 and in
the fifth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the
Grace of God King of Great Britain John Hannell his mark
