The Will of Sarah Hall

 

In the Name of God Amen I Sarah Hall of Dorking in the County of Surrey Widow make publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner following that is to say ffirst and principally I commend my Soul to God my Creator hopeing and assuredly believing that through the Merritts and Death of my blessed saviour Jesus Christ I shall receive a full and free Remission of all my Sins And my Body I committ to the Grave with my late Husband Mr John Hall in the parish Church of Dorking aforesaid and it is my Express Direction that no person except such of my Children and very near Relations as can with their conveniency attend shall be invited to my ffunerall and that there be not any Sermon but that there be prayers in the Desk(?) And that the Expences of my ffunerall shall not exceed one hundred pounds I give five Pounds to be paid to the Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Dorking And to be by them laid out in Bread at two several times to be Distributed by them and amongst the Poor of the same Parish I give to my Son Daniel Waldo the Annuity of ffourteen Pounds payable out of the Exchequer and which is upon his own Life And I give to him one Hundred Pounds in Money and no more he being already sufficiently advanced by me I give to my Son Isaac Waldo the Annuity of ffourteen Pounds payable also out of the Exchequer and which is upon his own Life and I give unto him four Hundred Pounds in Money and no more he being already sufficiently advanced by me I give to my Son Peter Waldo the Annuity of ffourteen Pounds payable also out of the Exchequer and which is also on his own Life And I give to him six Hundred Pounds in Money I give to my Daughter Elizabeth Ravenscroft Twenty Pounds for Mourning To my Son Daniel Waldo and his Wife my Son Isaac Waldo and his Wife my Son Peter Waldo and his Wife my Son in Law Mr Thomas Ravenscroft and my Son in Law Mr William Humphris and to each and every of them ten pounds a peice for Mourning I give to each and every Child of my late Daughter Hannah Humphris which shall be living at the time of my decease One Hundred Pounds in Money I give to my Niece Adria Waldo in case she shall be living at the time of my decease ten pounds and ten shillings I give to the Reverend Ezekiel Mills of Dorking aforesaid in case he shall be resident there at the time of my Death five pounds I give to Miss Mary Harris the Daughter of Mr Thomas Harris of Dorking in case she shall be living at the time of my decease ten pounds and ten shillings I give to Mrs Dundas of Epsom one Guinea to my Servant Mary Arrow ten pounds to my Servant Mary Hooker ten pounds to my Servant Richard Heath five pounds to my Servant Edward Bird five pounds and to my Servant Jane Jones five pounds but my Will is that only such of my said Servants as shall be in my Service at the time of my Death shall be entitled to their said respective Legacies and that the Legacy or Legacies of such of them as shall not be so shall be void I give to my two Chairmen one Guinea a peice I give to my Son Daniel Waldo his own picture ina n oval Gilt fframe To my Son Isaac Waldo his own picture in an ovel Gilt fframe To my Son Peter Waldo his own picture in an Oval Gilt fframe To my Son in Law Mr William Humphris his late Wife's Picture in a Square black fframe To Mrs Sarah Woolllaston her ffather's picture sett in Gold I do hereby give and bequeath unto Thomas Jackson Esq Town Clerk of the City of London and to my said Son Isaac Waldo their Executors and Administrators the Annuity in the name of my said Daughter Elizabeth Ravenscroft and also those other Annuities in the names of Samuel Waldo and Richard Humphris and all other Annuities wherein and whereunto I have any Right Title or Interest either at Law or in Equity and not hereinbefore given to my Sons Daniel Isaac and Peter respectively and all my ready Moneys Securitys for Money Plate Household ffurniture Linnen Wearing Apparrell and all the Rest and Residue of my Goods and Chattells and personall Estate whatsoever and not herein otherwise given and whereof I am or shall be possessed or wherein I am or shall be interested or whereunto I am or shall be entitled at Law or in Equity To hold the same unto them the said Thomas Jackson and Isaac Waldo their Executors and Administrators upon this Special Trust and Confidence and to the Intent that they or the Survivor of them or his Executors or Administrators do and shall permitt and suffer my said Daughter Elizabeth Ravenscroft to have hold recevie and apply the growing profitts of the said Annuitys and Rest and Residue of ny said Estates from and immediately after my decease to and for her proper use or otherwise as she shall think fitt Exclusive of and without the control power or intermedling of her present or any future Husband And also that they the said Trustees or the Survivor of them or his Executors or Administrators do and shall from time to time and at all times after my said decease Transfer Assign pay order and dispose of the said Annuities thereby given in Trust for any or either of them And the said Part thereof to such person or persons and to and for such uses intents and purposes as She my said Daughter Elizabeth Ravenscroft shall at any time or times after my decease by one or more writing or writings to be by her Signed with her own proper Handwriting in the presence of two or more Credible Witnesses nominate direct and appoint Exclusive of and without the control power or intermedling of her present or any future Husband And for want of such Nomination Direction or Appointment and as to such part of the said Trust Estate or Effects whereof no such Nomination Direction or Appointment shall be made then and in such Case upon further Trust that they the said Trustees or the Survivor of them or his Executors or Administrators do and shall after the Death of the said Elizabeth Ravenscroft order and dispose of the said herein last mentioned part so and in such manner as the same may be proportioned and divivded to and amongst the persons hereinafter for and in that purpose named in the following shares and manner that is to say one full half part and Share thereof to my Grandaughter Sarah Ravenscroft One full fourth part and Share thereof to my Grandson Thomas Ravenscroft And the other full fourth part and Share thereof to my Grandson Waldo Ravenscroft And in case of the Death of any or either of them in the lifetime of their Mother and no nomination direction or Appointment being made by her as aforesaid that then the Part or Parts Share or Shares of her him or them so dying shall go to and be for the Benefitt of the Survivor or Survivors of them my said herein last named Grandaughter and Grandsons who shall be living at the time of the Death of their Mother And in case she shall dye before me then all the Annuities Estate and Effects hereby given in Trust as aforesaid shall immediately upon my Death go to and be for the Benefitt of her said three Children in the Parts and Shares and according to my direction here above expressed And in case my said Grandaughter Sarah Ravenscroft shall happen to be under Coverture at the time when her Share or Shares of my Estate and Effects shall come unto her then her Share or Shares shall continue in my said Trustees or the Survivor of them his Executors or Administrators to be from time to time vested paid Transferred Assigned ordered and disposed of to such uses persons and purposes as She shall at any time or times whether Sole or Covert and notwithstanding her Coverture by any Writing or Writings to be by her signed in the presence of two or more Credible Witnesses under her own hand direct and appoint exclusive of and without the control power or intermedling of her Husband And I do hereby make constitute and Appoint the said Thomas Jackson and Isaac Waldo Executors of this my Will And I give unto them Twenty Guineas a peice for their Extraordinary Trouble over and above their Costs and Expences in and about the Execution of this my said Will And I do hereby Revoke all former Wills and Disposals made by me ,ade In Witness whereof I have to mtwo parts of this my Will each contained in four Sheets of Paper to every of the said Sheets sett my hand and seal and my Seal also at the Top of each of the said two parts this ninth day of August in the ffifth year of the Reign of King George the Second And in the Year of our Lord One Thousand seven Hundred and Thirty one Sarah Hall
