The Will of Daniell Hall

 

In the name of God Amen I Daniell Hall of Dorking in the County of Surrey husbandman being sick in bodie but of good and perfect mind and memory and understanding for which I praise God soe make and ordayne this to be my last will and Testament in manner and forme following Revoaking hereby all former Wills and Testaments ffirst I commend my soule into the hands of Allmighty God my blessed Creator Redeemer and preserver And my bodie to be buried in decent and Christian buriell according to the direction of the Executor hereinafter nominated and sett downe Imprimis I will give and bequeath unto Daniell Hall my eldest Sonne the summe of twenty pounds of good and lawfull money of England and his Mother her gold Ringe my bedsteads with the feather bedd and sheat which belongeth unto it Also my Cubbards three chestes and all the pewter (excepting two porringers and a chamber pott) alsoe three payre of sheetes and payre of pillowcases a new kettle and the bigger skillett to be delivered to him at his age of one and twenty yeares by my Executors And my will and mynde is That those that stand charged to bringing up my sonne Daniel Hall whether it be my father Gardiner with whom I leave him him or with whom my Executors shall judge and see fitting to bring him up withall should have three pounds a yeare towards his educating out of the Estate until he attain the age of twenty yeares And if my Executor should upon some speciall case take my said sonne Daniell from my sayd father Gardner when that he shall hath kept the sayd Daniel two or three yeares Then my mynd and will is that my Executors doe pay unto my said ffather three pounds and tenn shillings yearly for the said tyme Item I will give and bequst unto my daughter Jane Hall the sum of twenty pounds of good and lawful money of England and one warming pan and skillett a chamber pott and two porringers to be paid and delivered to her at the age of one and twenty yeares by my Executors but if it please the Lord to take either of my said children away by death before the other be of one and twenty yeares of age Then my mynd and will is that the survivor of the two shall have the other earlier portion of twenty pounds in money and all the goods given and willed aforesaid to the other And also if it shall please God to take them both away by death out of this life Then my mynd and will is that all the sayd portion of both my children soe deceased both money and goods as above named shall be payd and delivered by my Executors or their Heires and Assigns to my youngest son John at the age of one and twenty yeares Item I will give and bequeath unto my sayd younger sonne John Hall the summ of fforty and two pounds of good and lawfull money of England to bring him up until he be twenty yeares of age And for his portion I give and bequeath unto the said John Hall the summe of twenty pounds of good and lawfull English money to be paid unto him by my Executor at the age of one and twenty yeares But if it should please God to take this my said sonne out of this life by death before his age of one and twenty yeares Then my mynde and will is that the said twenty pound portion be equally divided between his brother Daniell hall and his sister Jane Hall aforesaid or to the survivor of either of them Also I give and bequeath unto my said sonne John Hall a little chest of linnen a little box a small Morter of brasse and the pestle thereunto three peeces of pewter and a little byble all which were his own Mother's goods with a looking glass & two feather bolsters. And for all other my goods debts bonds bills or the like in my possession or to me belongong not before willed given or bequeathed as the apparrell of me and my wife and other my goods whatsoever (except the wooden vessell not to be meddled withall) my will and mynd is that they should be valued prized & sold by six months and that my debts be paid and my buriall charged & discharged and the legacies hereby duely performed and all the remayning somes of money should be and goe to my youngest sonne John Hall towards his educationg and bringing up or if he should fayle by deathas aforesaid then to the survivor or survivors as aforesaid by my brother Miles Hall and Stephen Richman my brother in law of Dorking to be the Overseers of this my last Will and give unto them twelve pence a peece for their payment to be paid by my Executors In Witness whereof I do sett my hand this eighteenth day of May 1650 Daniell Hall
