The Will of George Haines

 

The last Will and Testament of me George Haines of Hook Norton in the County of Oxford being of a sound Mind and Understanding First of all I give and devise to my wife Martha All that my Messuage or Tenement in which I now inhabit and dwell together with all and singular the Appurtenances belonging thereunto and also the Barn adjoining which contains my Fuel for and during the Term of her natural life or during the time of her Widowhood and I will that my said house and premises shall be kept in good order at the Expence of my Executors hereinafter mentioned during the said Term Also I Give and devise to my said wife the sum of forty Pounds to be paid to her immediately after my decease and to be at her own disposal Also my will and meaning is that if my said wife shall have expended the said forty pounds and the Club of which I am a Member should fail, that then my said Executors shall pay to my said Wife the sum of five pounds Annualy during her Widowhood Also I give to my said wife All the Household Goods which she was possessed of pervious to our Marriage and also all my Fuel for her own use, or to dispose of as she pleases And after the decease of my aforesaid Wife I give devise and bequeath to my Daughter Mary Whiter my Daughter Sarah Phillips and my Granddaughter Margaret Eldridge my said Messuage Barn and premises to be equally divided between them share and share alike Also I give to my Granddaughter Elizabeth Whiter the sum of five pounds to be paid in twelve months next after my decease Also I give to my Grandson George Whiter my Silver Buckles Also I give to my Grandson George Phillips my Watch All the rest residue and remainder of my Estate and Effects Stock in Trade Monies Securities for Money Household Goods and wearing Apparel I give unto and between my Daughter Mary Whiter and my Daughter Sarah Phillips and my Grandaughter Margaret Eldridge equally share and share alike And my will is that my two Sons in law William Whiter and John Phillips shall be Trustees of this my Will to set out the Monies devised to my Grandaughter Margaret Eldridge on good securities and to receive and take the Interest thereof and to apply it towards her support and Maintenance during her minority and to pay her the principal when she arrives at the Age of twenty one Years And if my said Grandaughter should die before she arrives at the Age of twenty one Years then I give her shares of my property to my two Daughters Mary Whiter and Sarah Phillips equally or if either of my said Daughters should be deceased then I give her share to her children to be equally divided betwixt them lastly I do nominate and appoint my two Daughters Mary Whiter and Sarah Phillips joint Executrix’s of this my will hereby revoking disannulling and making void all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made In Witness whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament set my Hand and seal this second day of November in the Year or our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven// The Mark of X George Haines
