This is the last Will
and Testament of me Charlotte Griffin of Longmarston in the
parish of Tring in the County of Hertford widow I appoint my son
in law John Kingham of Weston Mead in the parish of Weston
Turville in the County of Bucks Farmer and my friend Thomas
Woodman the Younger of Hemel Hempsted in the said County of
Hertford Auctioneer Executors and Trustees of my will I
bequeath all my Personal estate to my executors upon trust to
convert and get in the same when and in such manner as they
shall consider best and upon further trust to dispose of the net
monies to arise from such conversion and getting in after
payment thereout of my just debts and funeral and testamentary
expenses and the expenses incident to the execution of the
preceding trust according to the trusts hereinafter declared
concerning the same (that is to say) upon trust in the first
place to retain thereout to themselves the sum of nineteen
pounds and nineteen shillings each as an acknowledgement for the
trouble of executing my will and then to pay the following
legacies namily To Jane the wife of the said John Kingham fifty
pounds To each of my grandchildren namily Alice Gertrude Wyatt,
Ellen Griffin and Thomas Stockbridge one hundred pounds to be
vested in and payable to each grand child as and when she and he
shall attain the age of twenty one years And I direct each of
the said legacies of my said grand children to be invested by my
trustees until the same shall become vested and payable and the
yearly produce thereof shall be accumulated and the
accumulations be added to the capital of the legacy whence the
same shall have arisen and follow the destination of the same
legacy I declare that if my said grandchildren or any or either
of them shall die under the age of twenty one years then the
legacy of such one so dying and the accumulations thereof shall
be paid to the mother of such one so dying and if she should be
then dead then the same shall sink into the residue of my
personal estate To my said trustees five hundred pounds upon
trust to invest the same and apply the interest arising from
such investment for the personal maintenance and support or
otherwise for the personal benefit of my daughter Charlotte
Kingsley Griffin for her life or to pay the same or such part
thereof as they shall think fit to any person or persons to be
so applied without liability on the part of my trustees to
enquire into the application thereof and at her death the same
legacy or investment thereof shall sink into the residue of my
personal estate To my trustees three hundred pounds upon trust
to invest the same and apply the income arising from such
investment for the personal maintenance and support or otherwise
for the personal benefit of my daughter Sarah the wife of
William Wyatt for her separate use free from marital control for
her life or to pay the same or such part thereof as my said
trustees shall think fit to any person or persons to be so
applied without liability on the part of my trustees to enquire
into the application thereof and at her death the said legacy of
three hundred pounds or investment thereof shall sink into the
residue of my personal estate I give the Residue of my
personal estate to the said Charlotte Kingsley Griffin and Sarah
Wyatt and my daughter Esther Stockbridge and my sons Thomas
Griffin and James Griffin in equal shares But I declare that
the share to which each of them the said Charlotte Kingsley
Griffin and Sarah Wyatt may become entitled under the trusts of
my will as well original as accruing shall be held by my
trustees upon the trusts following namely as to such share of
the said Charlotte Kingsley Griffin upon the same trust for her
personal benefit during her life as is hereinbefore declared
concerning the said legacy of five hundred pounds and at her
decease upon trust for my said other children the said Sarah
Wyatt, Esther Stockbridge, Thomas Griffin and James Griffin in
equal shares And as to such share of the said Sarah Wyatt upon
the same trust for her personal benefit during her life as is
hereinbefore declared concerning the said legacy of three
hundred pounds and at her death upon trust for her daughter the
said Alice Gertrude Wyatt when and if she shall attain the age
of twenty one years and in case she shall die under that age
then upon trust for my said other children the said Charlotte
Kingsley Griffin, Esther Stockbridge, Thomas Griffin and James
Griffin in equal shares I declare that if any or either of my
said sons or daughters shall die in my life time leaving lawful
issue than and in that case such issue as shall attain the age
of twenty one years shall be entitled to and be paid equally
amongst them if more than one the share to which their his or
her parent would have been entitled if he or she had been living
at my death I direct that all investments of trust monies to be
made by my said trustees shall be made in their names in the
Public funds or on Government or real securities in England or
in or upon the security of shares stocks mortgages bond or
debentures of Companies incorporated by or acting under the
authority of an Act of Parliament with full power for them to
vary such investments at their discretion for any others of the
funds prescribed I declare that until the issue of my said
sons or daughters who may die in my lifetime shall attain the
age of twenty one years the income of the contingent shares of
such issue shall be applied in or towards the maintenance and
education of such issue respectively I declare that it shall
be lawful for my trustees to make such advances as they shall
think fit from and out of the contingent shares of such issue
respectively for the purpose of placing them in some respectable
way of business or otherwise for their respective benefit or
advancement in life I declare that if my said trustees or
either of them or any person or persons to be appointed under
this clause shall die disclaim or be unwilling or incompetent to
execute the trusts of my will it shall be lawful for the
competent trustees or trustee for the time being if any whether
refusing or retiring from the office of trustee or not or if
none for the executors or administrators of the last surviving
trustee to substitute by any writing under his or their hand or
hands any fit person or persons in whom alone or as the case may
be jointly with the surviving or continuing trustee my trust
estate shall be vested I declare that every benefit which
under this my will whether original or accruing which every
female legatee may acquire shall during her reverture be holden
applied and enjoyed for her sole and separate use apart from any
husband and so that she respectively notwithstanding her
coverture may as regards such benefit respectively be deemed in
equity a feme sole and with all the powers which she would have
had or might have exercised if she had not been married I
declare that the clauses hereinbefore contained so far as they
concern my trustees hereinbefore named shall extend and be
applied to the trustees or trustee for the time being of my
will I further declare that the trustees or trustee for the
time being of my will shall not be answerable for each others
acts or receipts nor for any losses happening without their own
respective default and shall be at liberty to retain and allow
to each other all expenses incident to the execution of the
trusts and powers of my will I declare that the said Thomas
Woodman may charge for all professional business transacted by
him in the same manner as if he were not a trustee of this my
will and that he shall be paid for the same accordingly I
revoke all former wills In witness whereof I have hereunder set
my hand and I have also set my hand to three preceding sheets of
this my Will this nineteenth day of February one thousand eight
hundred and sixty six

is a Codicil to the Will of me
Charlotte Griffin of Longmarston in the Parish of Tring in the
County of Hertford Widow which Will bears even date herewith i
appoint my friend William Newman of Gubblecote in the said
parish of Tring Farmer to be an Executor and Trustee of my Will
in addition to and jointly with John Kingham and Thomas Woodman
the Younger the executors and trustees therein appointed And I
give the same legacy of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings
to the said William Newman as I have given to the said John
Kingham and Thomas Woodman by my said Will And in all other
respects I confirm my said Will In witness whereof I have
hereunder set my hand this nineteenth day of February one
thousand eight hundred and sixty six

This
is a second Codicil to the Will of me
Charlotte Griffin late of Long Marston in the Parish of Tring in
the County of Hertford but now of Tring aforesaid Widow which
Will bears date the nineteenth day of February one thousand
eight hundred and sixty six I give my easy chair to my daughter
Jane the wife of John Kingham And I give the furniture in the
back sitting room of the house I now occupy except the said easy
chair and also the furniture and effects in the bedroom of my
said house which my daughter Sarah Wyatt now occupies to the
said Sarah Wyatt And in all other respects I confirm my said
Will and first Codicil thereto In witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand this nineteenth day of June one thousand
eight hundred and sixty eight
