The Will of John Grene

In the name of God Amen, the 17th day of August 1587,  I John Grene of Ossett in the parish of Dewsbury,   being sick of body but of good and  perfect remembrance praised be God, do ordain and  make my last will and testament in manner and form following, first I commend my soul into the hands of  almighty god my creator, believing in the merits of Christ his only son and my redeemer. My body I commit to the earth whence it came, to be buried in the churchyard of Dewsbury. AND concerning my personal goods, first my will is that my funeral expenses and due debts be paid and the rest of all my goods moveable and immovable, debts and chattells, bills, bonds and everything that is owed to me belonging or thereafter shall belong of right to me at anytime, I give and bequeath wholely to Agnes wife of me the said John Grene whom I do likewise make and appoint executrix of this my last will and testament desiring Robert Bradford, and John Goodaile (Goodall) my trusty neighbours to oversee that this my last will and testament be truly executed accordingly, in witness thereof I have set my seal, hand and mark the day and year above expressed.
