In the name of God the 12th day of August in the year of our lord 1570 and the 12th year of the reign of our soveriegn lady Elizabeth by the grace of God queen of England, France and Ireland, defender of the faith.  In witness I Edward Grene of the township of Ossett in the parish of Dewsbury,  being sick of body and in perfect remembrance doth make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, first I give and bequeath my soul unto almighty god my maker and redeemer and my body to be buried in the parish churchyard of Dewsbury.

     Also I give and bequeath unto Agnes Stringer late wife of Robert Stringer late of Heckmondwike, one .... of wheat, Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth wife of Robert Savile of Mirfield one .......

   I give and bequeath unto the poor12d. AND all the residue of my goods and chattells I give equally by dividing up unto Thomas Grene, Edward Grene, Beatrix Grene, and Alice Grene my children, whom I do make executors of this my last will and of all my goods and chattells moveable and immovable as in the said will.

  In witness whereof to this my last will I have sett my hand and seal the day and year above written. Sealed in the presence of Michael Elland, John Field (?), and John Fareburne.
