The Will of Katherine Gregory

 

In the Name of God Amen I Katherine Gregory of Brockham in the Parish of Betchworth in the County of Surrey being of Sound and disposing Mind and Memory do make this my last Will and Testament in Manner following that is to say I give & devise unto John Bicknall of Brockham aforesaid Maltster All & every my Customary Lands Tenements & Hereditaments holden of the Manor of Brockham in the said County (which I have surrendered to the use of my Will) To hold to him his Heirs & Assigns upon the Trusts hereinafter mentioned And I also give & bequeath unto him the said John Bicknall all and Singular my Goods Chattells and personal Estate whatsoever Except my Wearing Apparel upon the like Trusts that is to say Upon Trust as soon as may be after my decease to Sell & dispose of all my said Copyhold Estates & of my said personal Estate Except as aforesaid for the best Price that can be reasonably gotten for the same & to pay and apply the Money to arise by Sale thereof as hereinafter is mentioned that is to say In the first place to pay & discharge thereout all Incumbrances charged on the said Copyhold Estates & also all my just Debts & my late Husbands just Debts & my Funeral Expences together with the Costs & Charges of my said Trustee his Heirs Execs or Admors in or about the Execution of the said Trusts And in the next place to pay out of the Surplus of my said Money which shall arise by the said Sale unto my Servant Ann Shilton the Sum of four Pounds for her own life & then to pay & divide the residue of such Surplus over & amongst my Nephews & Niece Daniel Martin Nicholas Martin & Catherine Martin Mary & Ann the Daughters of Nicholas Gregory of Nutfield in the County of Surrey Lionel Gregory Son of Thomas Gregory of Wallingham in the said County & to my Grandson Thomas Miller son of Thomas Miller my Son in Law equally between them or such of them as shall be living at my Decease Share & Share alike to & for their own life And lastly I give & bequeath all my Wearing Apparel unto Sarah Martin Widow of my late Brother Daniel Martin Mary Miller Wife of my said Son in Law Thomas Miller Catherine Martin Daughter of my said late Brother & my said Servant Ann Shilton equally to be divided between them Share & Share alike And I hereby nominate and appoint the said John Bicknall sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills by me by me made & declaring this only to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Testatrix have hereunto set my Hand & Seal this fifth Day of November 1746 and in the twentieth Year of the Reign of King George the Second of Great Britain King
