This is the last will and testament of me John Gregory
of Stannery Farm near Earl Sterndale in the Parish of Hartington in the
County of Derby, Farmer.
First I order and direct that all my debt Funeral and testamentary expenses
be paid as soon as convenient after my decease. I give and devise unto my
wife Elizabeth Gregory all those two freehold cottages or dwellinghouses
with joiners workshop adjoining and the premises connected therewith and
belonging thereto situate at Crowdicote in the parish of Hartington in the
County of Derby for her own sole use during her life. I give and bequeath
unto my said wife Elizabeth Gregory the free use, wear, tear, and benefit of
all and singular my farming stock which shall and may be upon the said
Stannery Farm at my decease with all implements of husbandry, household
furniture, dairy utensil, and all farm produce which may and shall be at my
decease and all other my Personal Estate and Effects wheresoever and
whatsoever and of what nature and quality soever for and during her life and
for her own sole use and benefit.
At the decease of my said wife Elizabeth Gregory. I give and devise unto my
son Samuel Gregory his heirs and assigns (nevertheless charged and
chargeable with the following legacy) the aforesaid workshop and sawpit with
the appurtenances thereto as aforesaid situate in Crowdicote in the County
of Derby. And I order and direct that my said son Samuel Gregory pay out of
the same freehold one legacy or sum of twenty pounds unto my daughter Ann
Horobin wife of George Horobin, for her own sole use absolutely, and payable
twelve months from my said wifes decease. I give and bequeath unto my
daughter Elizabeth Faulkner, wife of Joseph Faulkner, the sum of twenty
pounds payable in four successive years from my wifes decease. Five pounds
each year and the first payment in twelve months from my said wifes decease
absolutely. The Rest, Residue and Remainder of my Estate and Effects both
Real and Personal which my said wife shall stand possessed of at her decease
wheresoever and whatsoever and of what nature and quality soever I give and
devise and bequeath unto my son Luke Gregory his heirs and assigns for his
and their own use absolutely and for ever. I nominate and appoint my said
wife Elizabeth Gregory and my said son Luke Gregory joint Executors of this
my last will and testament and I do order and direct that they retain unto
themselves and allow unto each other all expenses incidental to the
Executorship thereof neither shall they be accountable for any involuntary

therefore consitute and allow this and no other as and for my last will and
testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this fifth day of
February one thousand eight hundred and sixty eight _______John Gregory

and testament in the presence of us present at the same time, who in his
presence and in the presence of each other attest and subscribe our names as
witnesses thereto the said will being written on two pages and the word

Proved at Derby the 21st day of September 1868 by the Oaths of Elizabeth
Gregory, widow, the Relict, and Luke Gregory, the son, the Executors to whom
administration was granted.
The testator John Gregory was late of Stannary Farm, near Earl Sterndale in
the parish of Hartington in the County of Derby, Farmer and died on the 28th
day of March 1868 at Stannary Farm aforesaid.
