The Will of James Gregory (c.1726–1763)

 

In the name of God Amen. I James Gregory Cheesefactor of Great Longstone in the parish of Bakewell & County of Derby being weak in body but of Sound mind and disposing memory do make and Ordain this my last will and testament in maner and form as follows first I Reccomend my Soul to the mercy of God who gave it hoping through the merits of my blessed Redeemer Jesus Christ to obtain free pardon and forgiveness of all my Sins and I Order my body to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at ye direction of my Executors William Gregory and Richard Gregory my Brothers and as to Such temporall Estate which god in his goodness hath bestowed upon me I give and dispose of in Manner and form as follows

 

Imprimis - I give and bequeath to my Brother Thomas Gregory the sum of thirty pounds to be paid by my Executors from my Effects at ye full end and term of one year from and after my decease.

Item - I give and bequeath to my brother John Gregory the Sum of twenty pounds to be paid by my Executors as Aforesaid at ye end and term of one year after my decease.

Item  - I give and bequeath to my Sister Mary Jackson the Sum of twenty pounds to be paid by my Executors at ye full end and term of one year from and after my decease.

Item          -   I give and bequeath to my Sister Grace Searls the Sum of fifty pounds to be paid by my Executors in Manner as Aforesaid at ye full end and term of one year after my decease. Also if any of ye above named persons die before such legacie became due, to be paid to their heirs respectively.

 

Also I will and Require that all my Just and Lawfull debts be paid by my Executors together with my funeral Charges.

Also I give and bequeath to my Brother William Gregory all that Cottage or Messuage house together with Outhousing and and all other Appurttenances thereunto belonging me Situate Lying and being in Great Longstone and to him and his heirs or Assigns for Ever. Also I give and bequeath to my Brothers William Gregory and Richard Gregory to be Equaly divided between ye two said persons or to their heirs or Assigns use the whole Remainder of my Effects Namely all and Singular my goods Cattle and Chattles together with all Mortgages bills bonds dues debts and demands of any kind or Nature Whatsoever that doth shall or may hereafter of right Appertain or belong unto me. Also I Ordain and Appoint my two Brothers William Gregory and Richard Gregory Joint Executors of this my Last will and testament Renouncing and Revoking all others by me formerly made.

In Wittness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this seventeenth day of february in the third year of his present Majestys Reign and in the year of our Lord 1763

Let Probate of this Will be granted to William Gregory one of the Executors named therein. A power being reserved for John Gregory the other Executor to act at pleasure.
