This is the last Will and
Testament of me William Gotty of
Lewisham in the County of Kent
Carpenter. First I do hereby own
and direct that all and every my
just debts Funeral and
Testamentary Expenses and the
legacies by me hereinafter given
and bequeathed shall be fully
paid and satisfied I give and
bequeath to William Whitesmith
of Old Fish street London Grocer
(whom I hereafter appoint one of
my Executors and Trustees) the
sum of Twenty pounds of lawful
British currency for the trouble
he may have in the execution of
this my will. Also I give and
bequeath unto my daughter
Rebecca Fowler wife of Francis
Fowler of Henlow in the County
of Bedford Farmer, ten pounds of
like lawful money. Also I give
and bequeath unto my daughter
Elizabeth Hollingworth wife of
Thomas Hollingworth of Enfield
in the County of Middlesex
Butcher ten pounds of like
lawful money Also I give and
bequeath unto my wife and three
daughters Sarah Margaret and
Hannah the sum of five pounds
each for mourning. Whereas I am
seized and possessed of Four
several freehold messuages or
tenements and a Brewhouse and
buildings adjoining thereto and
also of a plot of meadow ground
and premises situate and being
at or near to Loampit Hill. In
the parish of Lewisham aforesaid
and to the reversion of several
other messuages adjoining
thereto under the will of my
late father William Gotty
deceased or under a deed of
partition made and executed by
and between me and my brother
John Gotty or one of them as in
the said will and deed of
partition is and are mentioned.
Now I the said William Gotty in
pursuance of the power and
authority given and assured to
and vested in me in and by the
will of my said late father and
in the deed of partition entered
into and executed by me and my
said brother John Gotty as
aforesaid and of all and every
other power and authority powers
and authorities whatsoever in me
being and in anywise enabling me
in this behalf and in extoist
and earnition thereof do hereby
direct limit and appoint and
also give devise and bequeath
unto the said William Whitesmith
and John Blogg of Shoreditch in
the County of Middlesex
Carpenter and their heirs all
those my three freehold
messuages or tenements situate
and being at or near to Loampit
Hill in the parish of Lewisham
aforesaid two whereof are now or
late were in the occupation of
Samuel Gosling and Richard
Stevens and the other is now in
my own occupation to hold the
same with the appurtenances
thereto respectively belonging
unto them the said William
Whitesmith and John Blogg and
their heirs upon trust that they
or the survivor of them or the
heirs of such survivor do and
shall pay to my wife Agnes Gotty
the rents issues and profits
thereof by weekly payments for
and during the term of her
natural life in case she shall
so long continue my widow and
unmarried. And from and
immediately after the decease or
marriage again of her my said
wife and which of the two shall
first happen then I do hereby
direct limit and appoint and
also give devise and bequeath
one of such messuages or
tenements with the appurtenances
thereto belonging and now in
mown occupation (being the
messuage nearest towards
Lewisham Bridge) and also the
small plot of ground immediately
adjoining thereto and formerly
part of the Waste of the Manor
of Lewisham and which plot of
ground is subject to the yearly
rent of two shillings ( that is
to say) one shilling to the Lord
of the Manor and one shilling to
the Parish Officers of Lewisham
for the time being. Unto my
daughter, wife of the said John
Blogg, Sarah Blogg to hold the
same with the appurts thereto
belonging unto her my said
daughter Sarah Blogg her heirs
and assigns for ever. And I do
hereby direct limit and appoint
and also give devise and
bequeath (after the death or a
new marriage of my said wife)
one other of the said three
messuages or tenements with the
appurtenances thereto belonging
that is to say) the messuage or
tenement and premises now or
late in the occupation of Samuel
Gosling or his undertenants unto
my daughter Margaret Blogg wife
of Charles Blogg to hold the
same with the appurtenances
thereto belonging unto her my
said daughter Margaret Blogg her
heirs and assigns for ever. And
I do hereby direct limit and
appoint and also give devise and
bequeath (after the death or a
new marriage of my said wife)
the other remaining messuage or
tenement with the appurtenances
thereto belonging (that is to
say) the messuage or tenement
and premises now or late in the
occupation of Richard Stevens or
his undertenants unto my
daughter Hannah Frost wife of
William Frost to hold the same
with the appurtenances thereto
belonging unto her the said
Hannah Frost her heirs and
assigns for ever. And as to all
that messuage or tenement and
the Brewhouse, yard garden&
parcel of meadow land with the
appurtenances now held by John
Lambert Brewer and also all and
every the rest residue and
remainder of my real estate
whatsoever and wheresoever
whether in possession remainder
or expectancy and over which I
have any right or power of
Disposal and not by me
hereinbefore specifically
bequeathed I do hereby direct
limit and appoint and also give
devise and bequeath the same
respectively and the whole and
every part thereof unto them the
said William Whitesmith and John
Blogg their heirs and assigns
upon trust that they or the
survivor of them or the
executors or administrators of
such survivor do and shall with
all convenient speed sell and
dispose of the said last
mentioned messuage or tenement
and the Brewhouse yard garden
land and all other my real
estate (not hereinbefore by me
specifically disposed of) for
the most money and best price
that can and may be had or
gotten for the same and in such
way and manner as they and their
discretion shall judge right and
think proper. And upon further
trust that they my said trustees
shall and do enter into and
execute all necessary deeds and
conveyances for vesting the said
heriditiments and premises in
the purchaser or purchasers
thereof and my mind and will is
and I do hereby order and direct
that the receipt or receipts of
the said William Whitesmith and
John Blogg or the survivor of
them or of the executors or
administrators of such survivor
shall be a good and sufficient
discharge and good and
sufficient discharges to the
purchaser or purchasers of such
respective premises so by me
directed to be sold as aforesaid
for so much money as in such
receipt or receipts shall be
expressed to be received and
that the purchaser or purchasers
of such respective premises or
any part thereof shall not be
bound to see to the application
of such purchase money
