The Will of John Gotty

 

In the Name of God Amen
the Two and Twentieth day of Ffebruary in the yeare of our Lord God according to the Computation of the Church of England one Thousand six hundred ffiftie and five I John Gotty of Hartfield in the Countie of Sussex yeoman being sick and diseased in bodie but of good and perfect remembrance Thanked be given unto Almightie God I do constitute appoint and make this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following Ffirst I commit and commend my soule into the hande of Almightie God my creator desiring and hoping for eternall salvation in the ? of his onely sonne Jesus Christ my onely Saviour and Redeemer And my bodie to be decently buried in the Churchyard of the parish of Hartfield aforesaid ? I give unto the poore of the said parish of Hartfield Twentie Shillings To be paid within one month after my decease and to be divided and distributed amongst them at the pleasure and discretion of my executor hereafter nominated and appointed

Item I give and bequeath unto Mary my welbeloved wife Twentie Shillings to be paid unto her within one month after my decease and also the featherbed whereon we usually lye together with the boulster pillowes curtains Stiddle? Covering and Blanket thereunto belonging

Item I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Gotty of Hartfield aforesaid widowe my mother one paire of ? one fireshovell one paire of tongs one livery Cupboard one little Table and one finall iron pott

Item I give and bequeath unto my sister Easter Gotty one small black ?

Item I give and bequeath unto the said Easter Gotty and Stephen Jones (onely sonne of Elizabeth Jones my eldest sister deceased) All those three pieces or parcelle of land within ? and containing by ? and an halfe and three and thirtie ? lying and being within the parish of Hartfield aforesaid boundring to the lande now or late of Sir Bowyer Morsley Knight also Highfield towards the ? to a ? land calle Pater noster Land toward ? And to the lande of Felsor? called Lisland?e towarde the North and East as the ? and bound? side thereof more ? divide and show bring now in lease for ? ? unto William Gotty my brother or to the onely proper use and beheafe of them the said Easter Gotty and Stephen Jones their heires and assignes forever

Item I nominate appoint and make my loving brother William Gotty of Hartfield aforesaid yeoman my whole and sole executor of this my last will and Testament To whom I give and bequeath all and singular the rest and residue of my moveable goods Chattels and personall estate whatsoever or for witness whereof I have hereunto set my seale and also signed everie sheet hereof the day and yeare first above written
