The Will of John Goodborne

 

This is the last Will and Testament of me JOHN GOODBURNE of Kirkby Laythorpe in the County of Lincoln Grazier. First I give and bequeath unto my CHILDREN ELEANOR, SUSANNAH, ANN, NATHANIEL, THOMAS and CHARLES GOODBORNE the sum of forty pounds a piece. And I will and direct that the legacies given and bequeathed to my said daughters shall be paid when and as they attain their several and respective ages of twenty five years. And that the legacy given and bequeathed to my said sons shall be paid when and as they attain their several and respective ages of twenty one years or day or days of marriage which shall first happen. And if any of my said sons or daughters before mentioned shall happen to die before his her or their legacy or legacys shall become due and payable then I will and direct that the legacy or legacys of each of them so dying shall go to and be divided amongst them share and share alike and if only one such survivor then the said only one his or her executors or administrators. Also I give and bequeath unto my SONS WILLIAM and JOHN GOODBORNE and my DAUGHTER ELIZABETH GOODBORNE the sum of one shilling a piece. Also I give and bequeath unto my said son John Goodborne my silver tankard. All the rest and residue of my household furniture plate goods chattels stock effects and personal estate of what nature or kind soever charged and chargeable worth left with the payment of my debts and legacys and funeral expenses, I give and bequeath unto my dear WIFE SUSANNA Goodborne whom I do hereby constitute and appoint sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament. And lastly I will and desire that my said son John Goodburne will aid and afsist my said wife in the management of my farm and the education of my children. In witnefs whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and seal this twenty eight day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty two.
