The Will of Frances Gilbert
In
the Name of God Amen I
ffrances Gilbert of Tiffield
in the County of Northampton
being of sound and disposing
Mind and Memory do make this
my last Will and Testament
in Manner following Imprimis
I give unto my two Daughters
Ann Gilbert and Mary Gilbert
all my Household Linnen to
be equally divided between
them and also all the Coals
and ffirewood that shall be
found at the time of my
Decease at my House at
Tiffield wherein I now dwell
Item I give to my three
Daughters Elizabeth Wilson
Ann Gilbert and Mary Gilbert
all the ffurniture and
Household Goods of my said
House to be equally divided
between them Share and Share
alike Item I give and devise
unto my Executors
hereinafter named and the
Survivors of them and the
Heirs of such Survivor the
Advowson of the Church of
the parish of Tiffield
aforesaid Upon Trust that
they permit and suffer my
said Daughters Ann Gilbert
and Mary Gilbert and the
Survivor of them and the
Heirs of such Survivor to
have the Right and Power of
Predentation thereunto from
Time to Time as often as
occasion shall be and
require but in case my said
Daughters Ann and Mary or
the Survivors of them or the
Heirs of the Survivors of
them at any Time be desirous
that his said Advowson be
sold and disposed of then
and in such case and at
their joint Request or at
the Request of the Survivor
of them or of the Heirs of
the Survivor such request to
be delivered in Writing and
signed by the party or
partys making the same in
the presence of two or more
Credible Witnesses Upon
Trust to sell and dispose
thereof and to divide and
pay the Money arising by
such sale equally to and
amongst such of my Children
as shall then be living but
in case none of my Children
shall be living at the Time
of such Sale then to pay the
Money arising thereby to the
Heirs of the Survivor of
them the said Ann and Mary
Gilbert Item all those my
two Messuages or Tenements
with the Appurtenences
situate in Tiffield
aforesaid and also all those
my several pieces and
Parcels of Arable Land Lay
Meadow and Pasture Ground
lying and being dispersed in
the Common and Open ffields
of Tiffield aforesaid
commonly called and known by
the name of Wood Closes All
which said premises were
lately in the Tenure or
Occupation of Robert
Goodspeed and now of Richard
Curl his Under Tennants or
Assigns and were purchased
by John Gilbert my late
Husband deceased of Robert
Neale Knight and Cotherill
or some or one of them and
were given and devised to me
by the last Will of my said
late Husband and all other
my Real Estate lying in
Tiffield aforesaid and
elsewhere in the said County
of Northampton I give and
bequeath to my Executors
hereinafter named and their
Heirs upon Trust to sell and
dispose thereof with all
convenient Speed after my
Decease and to pay and apply
the Money Arising by such
sale to such Persons and to
such Uses as hereinafter is
mentioned but my Will is
that my said Executors shall
in the first place offer the
said Estate to sale to each
of my Daughters Respectively
at the Price of Six Hundred
Pounds and if none of my
said Daughters shall be
willing to purchase the same
at that Price then my
Executors shall sell the
same for the most Money they
can get for it and the Money
arising from the sale
thereof and also all my
Personal Estate not
hereinbefore devised I give
and dispose of as followeth
(that is to say) after
Payment thereout of my Debts
and ffuneral Charges
together with all reasonable
Costs and Expences which my
said Executors may be put
unto and Sustain in the
Execution of this my Will I
give unto my Daughter
Elizabeth Wilson or in case
of her decease to her
Husband Goodwin Wilson the
Sum of One Hundred Pounds in
pursuance and full discharge
of a Covenant contained in
the Articles made on the
Marriage of my said Daughter
with the said Goodwin Wilson
Item I give to my Daughter
Ann Gilbert the sum of ffour
Hundred Pounds and to my
Daughter Mary Gilbert the
sum of ffour Hundred Pounds
And to my Grand Daughter
ffrances Jackson the Sum of
One Hundred Pounds to be
paid to her at her Age of
Twenty One Years but in case
she shall die before she
attains the said age then my
Will is that the said One
Hundred Pounds be divided
amongst such of my said
Three Daughters as shall be
living at the time of her
Decease Item I give to my
said Executors the Sum of
Ten Pounds to be paid to and
divided amongst such of the
Poor of the said Parish of
Tiffield and in such
Proportions as my said
Executors shall think Proper
Item I give to each of my
said Executors ffive Guineas
for his own proper use and
Benefit Item I hereby order
the sum of ffifty Pounds to
be paid to my Daughters Ann
and Mary Gilbert over and
besides all other bequests
by me to them hereby given
in Consideration of the
Expences they may sustain in
Housekeeping Till such Time
as Affairs can be settled
and their ffortunes paid
them all the Rest Residue
and remainder of the Money
arising by such sale and
also of my said Personal
Estate I give and bequeath
to my said Executors in
Trust to and for the Use
Benefit and disposal of my
said Daughters Elizabeth
Wilson Ann Gilbert and Mary
Gilbert and my Granddaughter
ffrances Jackson to be paid
to her at her Age of Twenty
one years but in Case she
shall happen to die before
she attains the said Age
then upon Trust as to her
share of and in the said
Residue to and for the use
and Benefit of such of my
said Daughters as shall be
living at the time of her
decease and as to the Share
of my said daughter
Elizabeth Wilson in and to
the said Residue and also in
and to the Money arising by
the sale of the said
Advowson (in case the same
shall be sold during her
Life Time) I give the same
to my said Executors their
Executors and Administrators
upon this further Trust that
is to say for the sole and
separate Use and Benefit of
the said Elizabeth Wilson
and her Assigns and to be
paid to the said Elizabeth
Wilson and her Assigns at
such Times and in such
Proportions as she shall
demand and require the same
and that such proportions
and that her Receipt and
Receipts alone shall be a
sufficient discharge for the
same notwithstanding her
Coverture And in case the
same or any Part thereof
shall be remaining in the
Hands of my said Executors
their Executors or
Administrators at the time
of the Decease of the said
Elizabeth Wilson then in
Trust to be paid and aplied
to such Person or Persons
for such Uses and in such
Manner as the said Elizabeth
Wilson shall by her last
Will and Testament in
writing notwithstanding her
Coverture direct and appoint
and for want of such
Direction and appointment to
and for the proper use and
behoof of the said Goodwin
Wilson her said Husband and
I hereby make constitute and
appoint the Reverend
Bartholomew Keeling of Saint
Johns Colledge Oxford Master
of Arts and William Ives of
Barnards Inn London
Gentlemen the Executors of
this my Will hereby revoking
all former Wills by me at
any Time heretofore made

and delivered by the said
ffrances Gilbert this
ffourteenth day of April in
the year of our Lord One
Thousand Seven Hundred and
