In the Name of God Amen.
I John Gapper the Elder of the parish of Wootton Fitzpaine in the
County of Dorset, farmer, being weak in Body but of a sound and
disposing Mind, Memory and Understanding (for which I bless God) do
make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form
following:
First and Principally I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty
God who gave it, and desire that my Body be buried in a decent and
Christianlike manner by my Executors hereafter to be named. And as
for those worldly Advantages with which it has pleased God to bless
me I give and dispose of as follows:
First, I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Elizabeth Gapper all
my Copyhold and Leasehold Tenements situate in the parish of Winsham
in the County of Somerset together with all Bills, Bonds, Notes of
Hand, Goods, Chattels and Effects of every kind and denomination for
the sole use and benefit for and during her natural life and after
her decease it is my Will and desire that my said Leasehold Tenement
situate in Winsham aforesaid to be sold together with my other Goods
and Chattels then remaining and the Monies arising there from with
all other Monies or Effects whatsoever be divided among my Sons and
Daughters herein notified by name share and share alike (viz)
Charles Gapper, Susannah, wife of John Genge, Mary, wife of George
Miller, Jane, wife of John Miller, William Gapper, Robert Gapper,
Benjamin Gapper and James Gapper, and in case any one or more of my
aforesaid Children die before my said wife Elizabeth Gapper having
Child or Children then it is my Will that the parent’s share be
given to such Child or cHildrenbetween themshare and share alike.
Also, I give and bequeath unto my son John Gapper from and after his
Mother’s decease all that my Copyhold Tenement or piece of Ground
called Cortuma Close situate in Winsham aforesaid for and during his
natural life as specified on Copy of Court Roll which Legacy I
consider as a compensation in lieu of any share of my other
property.
Also, I give unto my grandson James Gapper Wilkins the sum of five
pounds to be paid him within one full year after the decease of my
wife Elizabeth Gapper.
Also, it is my Will that any Debt due from any one or more of my
Children above named at the time of their Mother’s decease shall be
considered as part of his or her share or shares of my Effects and I
hereby constitute and appoint my wife Elizabeth Gapper, my son
Benjamin Gapper and my son-in-law John Miller joint Executors on
Trust of this my last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have
hereunto set my Hand and Seal this twenty ninth day of august one
thousand eight hundred and twenty three.

Gapper as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us
who have hereunto subscribed our Names as Witnesses at his request
in his presence and in the presence of each other.

Proved at London 14th March 1825 before the Judge by the oaths of
Elizabeth Gapper, Widow, the Relict, and Benjamin Gapper, the son,
and John Miller, the Executors to whom Admon was granted having been
first sworn by custom duly to administer.
