The Will of William Fryer

 

 This is the last will and Testament of me William Fryer of Duncan Street white Chapel in the County of Middlesex Sugar refiner where in property in the partnership concern with my late partner John Bradburn Esq and my present partner Charles Bradburn his son as near as I can now ascertain is to the account of Ten Thousand pounds [£10,000] and upwards and I hold some bonds mortgages and notes of hand of small amount and twenty shares in the Eagle Insurance office all which mortgages bonds and notes ... are amongst my probate papers and my debts are chiefly to my uncle Christopher Fryer of Barningham in the county of York on bond with hundred pounds to my friend William Pease of Hutton Hang in the said county on bond six hundred pounds [£600] and to Mrs Scott of Kirby Street Hatton Garden two hundred pounds [£200] three per cent stock which stock shall most likely replace in a very little time and first I desire ?....? all my just debts funeral expences and testamentary expences of proving this my will may be paid out of any ready money that may be in my possession at the time of my decease and I that should be insufficient then out of the first ?....? that shall come to the ?...? of my executors.

Executors to call in all moneys due on mortgage or bond or note abd sells and dispose of shares ....

I give unto my father William Fryer of Fleets House near Middleham in the North Riding of Yorkshire farmer my dear sister Mary Fryer of the same place spinster and my dear sister Margaret Tomlin the wife of John Tomlin of Thornton Steward in the same county farmer the sum of five hundred pounds [£500] each to be paid them within six months after my deceas.....

unto my brother John Fryer of Chancery Lane London Law Stationer and my worthy friends Matthew Craven of Clapton in the County of Middlesex Esq and Nicholas Temporley of Gloucester Street in the said county of Middlesex sugar refiner the sum of two thousand pounds [£2,000] upon trust to lay the same out in Government stocks.... and pay to... my said father William Fryer to receive and take the dividends .. during his life for his own use and benefit and after his decease then I direct my said trustees to stand possesion of he same upon he terms following ... one thousand pounds [£1,000] to... my dear sister Mary Fryer to receive the dividends and interst thereof during her life ...and if Mary do marry and have children , after her decease... to her child or children .... then I direct ... that if child or children die .... the whole of the sum of one thousand pounds [£1,000] be invested ... amongst my brother and sisters then living ...

the other one thousand pounds [£1,000] to be invested and my dear sister Margaret Tomlin receive the dividends .... and if she dies to her children etc ....

I give devise and bequeath unto my said brother John Fryer and Nicholas Temperley .... one thousand five hundred pounds [£1,500] upon trust ... and pay the dividends and interest arising from such stocks or funds towards the maintenance education and support of Charles William Walker ?usreal? Bethnall Green in the County of Middlesex until he shall attain the age of twenty four years and after... then oay the said sun of one thousand five hundred pounds [£1,500] and any accumulations that may be made during his apprenticeship to any trade or otherwise to the said Charles William Walker to and for his own absolute use and benefit to establish him in any trade or profession ... or commission in the army ... if he dies to my brothers and sisters ....

I give and bequeath unto my brother George Fryer of Holm Ing in the said North Riding of Yorkshire farmer the sum of one thousand pounds [£1,000] to and for his own use and benefit ...

I give and bequeath unto my brother John Fryer the sum of one thousand pounds [£1,000] to and for his own use and benefit.

I give unto Margaret Fryer my father’s old housekeeper the sum of two hundred pounds {£200]

Unto Elizabeth ?Caesar wife of Mr Caesar Haberdasher residing in White Cross street London the sum of one hundred pounds [£100] I give unto my said brother John Fryer Matthew Craven and Nicholas Temporley the sum of one thousand pounds [£1,000] each for the trouble they may have in the execution of the truss of this my will and I desire that they will reimburse themselves .... and residue to my brothers and sisters George Fryer, John Fryer, Mary Fryer, Margaret Tomlin I give mourning rings to such friends as my brother John Fryer may think proper and also mourning to the clerks and servants employed in Duncan street and lastly I do appoint my said brother John Fryer Matthew Craven and Nicholas Temporley executors....

Codicil

a further five hundred pounds [£500] to trustees to be added to sum of one thousand pounds for Charles William Walker to make it two thousand pounds [£2,000] ...

John can carry out the sugar refining businss in Duncan Street

unto god daughter Margaret Maria Fryer daughter of Mr Christopher Fryer of ?.owell? .... twenty pounds [£20]

I give my watch and seals to William Fryer clerk in the Banking house of Fuller and [or at?] Cornhill

I give unto Mrs Bulmer wife of John Bulmer farmer in the North Riding of Yorkshire twenty pounds [£20]

Second codicil....

revoke the legacy of one hundred pounds[£100] given to Mrs Caesar of White Cross Street in lieu thereof I give her a legacy of thirty pounds [£30]

I give to Mrs Mary Mayers of no 10 Cooper’s Row ten pounds [£10]

I give and bequeath to Miss Elizabeth Davies of Clapham Common one hundred pounds [£100]... as a token of my regard for her and I request my brother John Fryer will give her a valuable ring or any other ornament she may choose to wear in rmembrance of me...
