Robert France, Newton in Makerfield,
1649
In the name of god Amen the sixt day of
November Anno Dom’i 1640 I Robert France of w’thin the p’ish of
winwicke and County of Lancaster Taylor being sicke weake and
infirme of bodie but of good and p’fect memorie thanks bee to
god and knowinge death to bee sure and the tyme uncertaine am
mynded to make this my last will and Test’ant in manner and
forme following That is to say first and principally I give and
comitt my sule into the hands of Almightie god my maker and
Creater and my bodie to bee buried in the p’ish Chu’ch yard of
winwick in my burying place there att the discretion of my
executor hereafter named and neerest freinds And as concerning
my worldly goods w’ich god hath lent me and made me steward of
Togeather my messuage and ancient Cottage w’th it appurtenance
situtt lying and being in Newton aforesaid w’ch I am now
possessed of by force and ver’ue of one Inventare of lease
beering date the Second Day of May 1625 to mee and my assignes
during the Continuance of the said lease as by sight thereof
more at large it doth and may appeare it is my will and mynd to
leave and dispose it as followeth vizit first it is my will and
mynd and I doe give and grant and assigne the said messuage and
ten’nt with thapp’rtenance and every p’te thereof from and
imediatly after my decease unto my brother John France & his
assi’nes for and during the Continuance of the said lease hee
paying the Rents suits and s’rvices due and payable for the same
according to the reservacon of the said lease Provided allways
that my sister Ellin shall have and enioy the kitchon to live in
During her n’rall liffe if the estate in the originall lease
before menconed doe so long endure And as Concerning my other
wordly goods it is my will and mynd to dispose them as followeth
first I give and leave unto my said sister Ellin France five
pounds ayeare during her n’ral life to be payd unto her att
ev’ry quarters daie after my decease by brother John France his
exec’rs or admin’s porcons Itim it iss my will and mynd and I
give unto Rob’t Maddock my godsune 2s 6d to be bestowed on him
in ap’ell by my brother John I give unto Ellin Taylor my god
daughter 12d I give unto my Cosen Peter Ackers Alice Ackers and
Ellin Ackers every one of them five shillings apice All the
rest of my goods whats’ev’r I give unto my brother John France
And I ordaine Constatute and make the said John France my
brother sole execut’r of this my last will and testa’nt hopeing
hee will p’forme the same as my trust is in him above all other
In witnes whereof I the said Rob’t France have hereunto putt my
hand and seale dated the day and yeare first above written.
