The Will of Tompson Fox

 

In the name of God Amen I Tompson Fox the Elder of Bampton in the County of Oxon Innholder being weake in body but of perfect mind & memory thanks be given to God for the same, do therefore make this my last will and testament the eight day of July ..Annoy Dom 1699 as ffolloweth Inprimis I give bequeath resigne & surrender up my precious soule into the hands of Almighty God my Creator hoping & assuredly believing through the merritts of Jesus Christ my Redeemer to receive forgiveness of all my sins And my body to the earth from whence it came to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor hereafter named And as for the worldly estate that it hath pleased God to  bestowe on me I give & bequeath the same in manner ffollowing Imprimis I give & bequeath unto my loving wife Elizabeth six pounds a year to be paid unto her or her assigns quarterly in good money by my executor during the terme of her natural life upon condition that she relinquish all her right of dowry or thirds in my freehold estates & all her right of widowhood in my copyhold estate at Aston in the parish of Bampton aforesaid unto my two sons Tompson & Richard Fox & their assigns And I do hereby charge all my estate in Bampton aforesaid for the payment of the said six pounds a year after the rate of thirtie shillings every quarter and the first payment to begin at the three months and next after my decease Item I give and bequeath all my estate with the appurtenances lying in Ramsdon  in the said county of Oxon unto my loveing freinds  John Fox of Bampton aforesaid and Thomas Ricketts of Coate in the parish of Bampton aforesaid and to their heires Nevertheless in trust that they and the survivor of them and the heires of such survivor shall permit & suffer my daughter Ann Dixon  & her assigns to hold & enjoy my said estate at Ramsden  dureing the term of her natural life And after her decease then my will is the same estate shall go unto her child or children (if more than one) and to the heirs of such child or children for ever But in case the child or children of my daughter Ann Dixon shall die before they are of the age of one & twenty years Then my will is the same estate shall go unto my two sonns Tompson & Richard Fox and their heirs for ever equally between them  Item I give & bequeath unto my said daughter Ann Dixon my three .ow beasts Item I give & bequeath unto my son John Fox six pounds a year to be paid unto him half yearly in good money by my executor during the term of his natural life and the first payment being three pounds to be paid at the six months end next after my decease Item I give & bequeath unto my said son John Fox all that my bed & bedstead & bed furniture which is in my room called the shuffle board room with the curtains and vallence thereunto belonging & two good pairs of hempen sheets Item I give and bequeath unto my said wife my bed bedstead and furniture which we commonly lie upon being in the little room and the pewter & brass that formerly did belong unto her Item I forgive my son in law Edmond Seary all the debts that he oweth me Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane my second best sett of curtains & valence which is in the new room Item I give & bequeath to my daughter in law Elizabeth Burfe the bond for five pounds which is due from her Uncle Jordon liveing in or about the City of London to be delivered by my executors Item I give & bequeath unto my daughter Mary .ebb one shilling and to my daughter Margery five shillings Item I give & bequeath unto my two sons Tompson Fox & Richard Fox & their heires & assigns forever All the rest of my ffreehold estates & Lease hold estates lying in Bampton & Aston aforesaid to be equally divided between them And all the rest of my goods chattles and personall estate whatsoever not here in before bequeathed my debts & legacies being paid and funerall expenses discharged I give and bequeath unto my two sons Tompson & Richard Fox whom I make and ordain to be the executors of this my last will and testament And I do hereby revoake & adnull all former wills & bequeasts by me made and I will that none shall stand but this my last will & testament only And I do desire my son in law Richard Dassett & my friends John Fox & Thomas Ricketts to be Over Seers of this my Last will And I do give unto them seven shillings & six pence of good money equally to be divided between them In witness whereof I the said Tompson Fox the elder have to this my last will and testament sett my hand & seal the day & year first above written
