The Will + Inventory of John Fawcett

 

    In the name of God amen, I John Fawcett of Smaws near Tadcaster in the county of York, Yeoman, do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner following, that is to say,

   All my goods, cattles, chattells, personal estate and effects of what nature or kind soever, and wheresoever the same shall be found, I give and bequeath the same unto Mary my wife subject to and chargeable, and I do hereby charge my said personal estate and effects with the payment of all my just debts, funeral and testamentary charges, and (written as an addition after and between the lines) also with the payment of £20 to my neice Jane Fawcett to be paid by my executrix within 12 months next after my decease.

   AND lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my said wife Mary, sole executrix of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all fomer wills by me made, in witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 28th day of February 1783.

Mary the widow and sole executrix sworn, and probate passed 17th May 1783.

A large inventory, dated 16th May 1783, appraised by John Addinell, John Fairburn, Robert Hunter, Richard Jackson.

 

Inc, In the house goods, Dairy, Parlor, Ladies chamber, Granary, garden,

 

Live stock, 1 Heffer, 2 old milk cows, 2x3 year old wheys, 3x2 year old wheys, 3x1 year old whey, 3 calves, 1 sow and 8 strong pigs, 1x 2 year old black filly, 1 old mare, 20 sheep and 6 lambs, 2 plows, 5 harrows, 2 carts, 1 waggon, 2 cart saddles. 1 black horse, 1 bay horse, 1x 7 year old black horse, 3 mares, wheat to thrash, etc.

 

Quarry close, 5 acres of clover, 7 acres of Barley

Matterson close, 2 acres maslin, 8 acres of wheat, 3 acres of oats,

6 acres, 6 acres of of beans,

Harinell field, 1 acre of wheat, 5 acres ..., 1 acre of barley,

Gores, 4 acres of wheat,

Town field, 2 acres oats, 2 acres of beans,

etc, etc,
