In the Name of God Amen. I Joseph
Farington of the parish of St Pancras Middlesex, Academician of
the Royal Acadamy of Arts do make and ordain this my last will and
testament in manner and form following. To Almighty God whose
gracious goodness has been shown me throughout a long life do offer
up my prayers that he will in his mercy pardon the manifold sins and
offences of which I have been guilty and through the mediation of
Jesus Christ our blessed Lord and Saviour receive my soul and for my
worldly affairs I first ?....? that should of at the time of my
decease stand indebted to my Brother the Reverend Dr Robert
Farnington for any sum or sums of money advanced by him for my
use that such money shall be paid him by my executor within six
months after my decease. The plan upon which I have lived has been
to have as few debts as possible but whatever just debts I may owe
at the time of my decease I direct that they together with my
funeral expences shall be paid with as little delay as circumstances
will admit. And I do hereby ordain and direct that whatever property
I may be possessed of be it whatever description it may and not be
specified to be bequest...? by me to any other peson of persons in
any memorandum I may hereafter make shall belong to and I hereby
bequeath it to my Brother Richard Atherton Farington in
acknowledgement of the great obligation I am under to him for his
fraternal kindness when particular occasions have enabled him to
manifest it to me and this I do with the grateful feeling that his
wishes and views to the welfare and happiness of every branch of our
family are in perfect agreement with my own. And I do hereby
nominate and appoint my Brother Henry Farington and my
Brother Richard Atherton Farnington to be my executors of
this my last will and testament written and signed with my own hand
this first day of February 1819 and have afixed my seal and signed
Joseph Farington

To my Brother Henry Farington I leave
the residue of my own painting which I have have in my possession at
the time of my decease and I wish that to him and his family one of
the portraits of me painted by Sir Thomas Lawrence should
eventually go to my brother the Reverend Dr Farington I
bequeath my picture "A view in Nootka sound" painted by the late
John Webber R.A. to my nephew Captain William Farington
of the Royal Navy
. I bequeath my portrait a KitKat in size painted by Sir Thomas
Lawrence R .A. unless he shall be possessed of my portrait at
Patts Wood painted by the same. To my neice Frances Coxe I
bequeath my gold repeating watch. To my nephew the Reverend
William James Farington I bequeath my Edition of the Holy Bible
in three Quarto volumes prepared and arranged by the Reverend
George D'Oyly B.D. and the Reverend Richard Mant D.D.
To Mrs Frances Hamond I bequeath ten guineas for a ring a
memorial of my regard for her and five guineas to each of her
children viz Horace, Fanny and Jane Hamond

To my two servants namely Mary James
and Sarah Whittaker if they be living with me at the time of
my decease I bequeath ten guineas to each of them over and above any
wages that may be due to them at that period. Jos Farington.
Appeared personally Edward Smirke of Inner
Temple, London, Henry Farington the younger of the Polygon,
Manchester, Leaonard Coxe of Buckingham Place, Fitzroy Square ...
that they knew and were well acquainted with Joseph Farington late
of Upper Charlotte Street, Fitzroy Square in the parish of St
Pancras ...... the will and codicils were found in a small box which
stood in the drawing room in his house in Upper Charlotte Street -
sworn affidavit...
