This is the last Will and Testament of me
Susanna Emerson of Fulmodeston with Croxton
in the County of Norfolk Widow made this
Twenty Eight Day of November in the year of
our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and
Seventy Seven First I make void all other
Wills or Testaments by me heretofore made
And by this which I declare to be my last
Will and Testament before all things I
commit my Soul into the Hands of Almighty
God my heavenly Father in hopes of the
pardon of all my Sins thro’ the Merits and
Mercy of Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour My
Body I give to the Earth to be decently
buried at the expense of my personal Estate
And the worldly Estate and Effects of which
I Now own or at the time of my decease shall
be possessed of I devise and give as follows
(***) All about my Messuage or Double
Tenement with the Yard Ground and
Appurtenances thereto belonging situate in
Fulmodeston aforesaid now in the possession
of Robert Emerson my Son, and John Allett I
devise and give to Ellen my Daughter (the
Wife of Edward Cork) and her Heirs To hold
the said premises to the said Ellen my
Daughter and to her Heirs and assigns for
ever Upon Condition nevertheless that she
the said Ellen my Daughter and her Heirs or
Assigns within Twelve Months must after my
decease do and shall well and truly pay or
cause to be paid To Thomas Bevis and Susanna
Bevis my GrandChildren Ten Pounds a piece of
good and lawful Money of Great Britain And
the further Sum of Ten Pounds of like Money
(making together Thirty Pounds) to my
Daughter Susanna the Wife of Benjamin
Russells And I do hereby expressly charge
all and singular my said premises with the
payment of the said several three Legacies
or Sums of Ten Pounds hereby given full
power and authority for all or any of the
said Legatees in case of non payment to
enter and hold the same and take the annual
and other Rents Issues and Profits thereof
until the said Legacies or Sums of Ten
Pounds shall be respectively paid and all
Charges in and concerning the Recovery of
the same Item I give to the said Robert
Emerson my Son Seven Pounds to be paid by
the said Ellen by (my?) daughter out of the
said premises to her devised within twelve
months after my decease as aforesaid with
power of Entry on non payment as aforesaid
And also my Bed upon the Chamber as it
stands One large brass Kettle One large
Silver Spoon and the Chest of Drawers in the
Bed Room below Item I give to my said
Daughter Susanna the Wife of Benjamin
Russells my Blue Bed below as it stands the
Corner Cupbard the *ea(Tea?) Board and three
brass Kettles Item I give to my said
Daughter Ellen the Wife of Edward Cork my
Cloak as it stands and also my Brewing
Copper My wearing Apparel and all other my
personal Estate after paying out of the same
my Funeral Charges my just Debts and the
Charge of the probate of this my Will I give
unto my said two daughters Ellen the Wife of
Edward Cork Susanna the Wife of Benjamin
Russells and my Grand Daughter Susanna Bovis
to be equally divided amongst them three
share and share alike Item I nominate and
appoint the said Ellen Cork my Daughter
Executrix and my good Friend Mr Thomas
Bircham of Th’pson(?) in the said County
Farmer Executor of this my last Will and
Testament In Witness whereof I have to this
my said last Will and Testament contained in
two sheets of paper set and put to both the
said Sheets my Hand and Seal this day and
year first (in the first Sheet) written. The
mark of Susanna Emerson.
Signed sealed published and declared by the
said Susanna Emerson the Testatrix herein
named as and for her last Will and Testament
in the presence of us who in her presence at
her request and in the presence of each
other have do both of the said Sheets
subscribed our Names as Witnessed to the
same (The following Words between the Twenty
fifth and twenty sixth lines of the first
Sheet being first interlined Viz – “to be
paid by the “said Allen my Daughter out of
the said premises to her devised “within
twelve months after my decease as aforesaid
with power “of Entry on non payment as
aforesaid” The mark of Benedicta Lea; Thomas
Lea; Thos. Mondham.
