The Will of John Ellis

 

In the name of God Amen

The eighth day of September in the yeare of our Lord one thousand six hundred and sixty nine I John Ellis of Guilden Morden in the County of Cambr laborer being weake in body but of sound and perfect memory for which I render thanks to Allmighty God doe make and ordaine this my last will & testament in manner & forme following, ffirst and principally I give and bequeath into the hands of Allmighty God, my heavenly ffather in Jesus Christ my soule which of his infinite goodnesse & mercy he gave unto me at such time as he fashioned me in my mother's wombe trusting and unfeignedly beleeving through the meritts & death & passion of Jesus Christ my Saviour and Redeemer to have release and pardon of my sinne And my body I comitt to the earth whereof it came to be buried in such seemly fort as my Executor hereinafter named shall think fitt And as touching my worldly goods and substains I dispose of as followeth

 

Item I give & bequeath unto my sonne John Ellis the house and land and all the appurtenances thereunto belonging with one half and one half a rood of land lying in the same furlonge & two roods more of land lying in Hoortswill field after the death of my wife & my self

 

Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne Lamech one acre of land butting upon a common called the fanned & one shilling one month after my death

 

Item I give unto my daughter Anne Pilgrim twelve pence to be paid by my sonne John Ellis

 

Item I give unto Susan Pilgrim my grandchildren forty shillings

 

Item I give unto Mary Pilgram twenty shillings to be paid to them when they come to the age of one & twenty yeares to be paid by my sonne John Ellis and if one of them shall dye before shee cometh to the age of one & twenty yeares the other shall survive her part and for the not paying of it if they or either of them shall enter upon the house & ground

 

Item all the rest of my goods and chattells with my house and land my debts being paid & my funeral charges deducted I give & bequeath unto Susan Ellis my Wife whom I make sole Executor of this my last will & Testament so long as shee shall keep herself unmarried but being married again shee shall take only the third of all that there is and depart from the house In witness whereof I the said John Ellis revoking all former Wills and Testaments made by me have to this last Will & Testament set my hand & seale the day and year above said
