The Will of Mary Elliott

 

In the Name of God Amen The fourteenth day of March in the year of our Lord 1728/9 I Mary Eliot Widdow of Capell in the County of Surry being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory Thanks be given unto God therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die doe make and ordain this my last Will and Testament (That is to say) Principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul into the hands of God that gave it and for my body I recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executrix nothing doubting but at the Generall Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and fform Item I give and bequeath to my Brother in Law John Eliot one Guinea Item I give unto Mary his wife one Guinea Item I give unto my Cousen Sarah Item I give unto my Cousen Mary Item I give unto my Cousen Elizabeth Daughters of the said John Eliot before mentioned one Guinea apiece Item I give unto my Sister Mary Constable of Nole one Guinea I give unto my Cousen John Constable I give unto my Cousen Mary Constable Children of my Sister Mary Constable before mentioned one Guinea apiece Item I give unto my Land Lord William Batcheler of Clarks Ten Pounds Item I give unto his Daughter Ann Batcheler ffive Pounds Item I give unto Jeans Parsons the son of Thomas Parsons of Warnham in the County of Sussex ffive pounds Item I give unto John Lucock Miller of Capel one Guinea Item I give unto my Godson John Lucock Son of the said John Lucock before mentioned ffive Pounds Item I give unto Susan Livings the wife of John Livings of Horsham one Guinea Item I give unto Thomas Lucock of Capell one Guinea Item I give unto my Sister Margarett Allen Widdow whom I likewise Constitute make and Ordain Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament All and Singular my Goods Chattles Bonds Bills Debts dues and demands whatsoever by her freely to be possessed and enjoyed And further I ordain William Wood Yeoman of Capell Trustee to this my last Will and Testament and I doe hereby give him ffive pounds for his Trouble to be paid him by my Executrix before mentioned and I doe hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former Testaments Wills and Legacies bequests by me anyways before this time Named Willed bequeathed ratifying and Confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament In Wittness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal the day and year above written The mark of Mary Eliot Widw
