Thomas Eden, Haydock, yeoman, 1632
In the name of God Amen the seaventinth
Day of June in the Seaventh yeare of the Raigne of our most
gracious Sov’aigne lord Charles by the grace of God kinge of
Englande/Scotland France and Irelande defender of the faith
etc. And in the yeare of our lord god one thousande sixe
hundred thirtie & one I Thomas Edene of Haydocke in the Cpountie
of Lancaster and dieces of Chester yeoman beinge sicke in bodye
but of good and perfect memorie praised bee god Therefore doe
constitutte ordaine and make this my last will and Testam’t in
maner and foarme followeinge:
First I give and bequeath my soule into
the hands of Almightie god my onelie maker and Redeemer in whom
is all my trust to be saved throughe the meritts of Christs
passion And my bodie to bee buried in Christian buriall att my
aparish church of winwicke wheire my Ancestors have beane
accustomed to bury theire to Remanie in the bosome of the earth
untill it shall please my Savioure and Reedemer to raise it upp
againe w’th a bodie of immortalitie
It’m it is my will and full mynde That all
my Debts legeasies and funerall expenses shalbee paid and
discharged foarth of my whoale goods And that then the rest and
resedewe of my said goods shalbee Devyded into three equall
parts the first p’te whereof I give unto Anne my now wyfe The
seacond p’te I give unto my Sone in Lawe James Lyon and Anne his
wyffe And the third and last p’te I give unto my Daughter Alice
Edene
It’m I give unto the saide Alice Eden my
Daughter all such goods as are now Resident w’thin my house in
Sannckie the seeled bed steed in the lower Chamber or the worth
of it in money or one other as good w’ich of theire Courses she
pleaseth to take And one twoe yeare ould heifer nowe in
Haidocke p’ke over and above anie Childs p’te or legasie
heretofoare bequeathed
It’m I give unto my Sister Margreat Halle
twentie shillings
It’m I give and bequeath unto my twoe
grandchildren eyther of thirtie shillings a peece
It’m whereas I have paide 26s
for the use of Alice Charneley in p’te of paym’nt of fortie
shillings whereof theire is 14s remayneinge It is my
will and mynde that the saide 14s shalbee made uppe
fortie shillings agsine and to bee paid to the said Alice
Charnley or to her Gaurdaine whom she hath choasen or hereafter
shalle elect or choose
It’m I give to my cossen little Thomas
Deavis 20s
It’m I give to my twoe godchildrene Alice
Hilton and Thomas Rowlinson eyther of them twoe shillings a
peece
It’m I ordaine and make my sone in lawe
James Lyone and my daughter Alice Edene my true and lawfull
executors to execute this my last wille and testem’t as my trust
and confidence is in theme to doe
It’m I desire my loveinge freinds John
Eden of Winwicke and Thomas Nailor glazier to bee overseers of
this my said last will and testam’t and to see that my saide
goods may bee equallie divyded and my saide will likewise
p’foarmed In wittnesse whereof I the saide Thomas Edene for the
better Corobora’con hereof have unto putt my hande and seale the
day and yeare first above written
