The Will of Edward Dunning

 

(This will unfortunately had some holes in it)

 

In the Name of God Amen I EDWARD DUNNING of Brompton in the County of York gentleman somewhat infirme in body but of good and sound mind and memory praised be God doe make and publish this to be and contain my Last Will and Testament in manner and forme following Imprimis I commend my soul to God who gave it and my body to the Earth from whence it came to be interred in such decent manner as my Executrix hereafter named shall think fit As for the worldly estate where with God hath blessed me I give and dispose thereof (hole)

Imprimis I give and devise unto ELIZABETH DUNNING my daughter (hole) parcel thereof and each of the said lands or Selions of land containing (hole) ... puted three Roods thereout excepted with said Eleaven Selions of land (hole) by me ... unto ROBERT RAIKES of Northallerton gentleman lying and being in the fields and territories of Northallerton in the county of York the same being held by lease for years under the Bishop of Durham and all my estate Interest and terme ... except before excepted. To Hold the same two Oxgangs of land (except for excepted) unto my daughter and her assigns for all such terme of years and with such benefit of a Renewall as I could or might have held and enjoyed the same.

Item I give and devise unto my daughter ELIZABETH and to her heirs forever all that my close or parcel of ground called Large Carrs with the houses and buildings thereon ... now in the possession of WILLIAM FORSTER subject nevertheless to a lease and agreement by me made with the said ROBERT RAIKES and being as a Collaterall Security ?..? ROBERT RAIKES quiet enjoyment of the said Eleven Selions of land lying on the lying on the ?Turekan ...? aforesaid

Item I give the Tuition Government and Guardianship of my son AMBROSE DUNNING and of my said daughter ELIZABETH DUNNING and of all his lands and portions to them unto my loveing wife ALICE DUNNING until my son and daughter shall respectively attain to their severall ages of one and twenty years. And my mind and will is that my loveing wife shall receive the rents and profits of the said lands and Tearms and both ?.... hold and ?....? given by me unto my said daughter until my said daughter attain to the age of one and twenty years my wife maintaining and educating my daughter out of the same in the meanwhile.

Item I give and bequeath unto my said loving wife all my goods and chattels and personal estate (hole) ... she paying my debts and discharging my funeral expences

And I make (hole) ELIZABETH DUNNING executrix (crease in paper) In witness whereof ..... .... March 1699

 

Witnesses R Raikes, Geo Shewold, Mary Shewold, Tho Tempest.

 

N.B. A selion of land indicates that the land was not enclosed into fields, as a Selion is a strip of land in the open field system.
