Notes
WILLIAM DRAYCOTT was the
agent to the Earl of
Strafford. He seems to
have been married twice
but only has two
surviving grandchildren
at the time of writing
his will in 1752.
His grandson WILLIAM DE
LA GARD was with the
East India Company &
died in India in 1760.
His granddaughter ANNA
MARIA DE LA GARD
inherited the bulk of
his estate & changed her
name to DRAYCOTT. The
parents of Anna Maria &
William are believed to
have been Charles
Delagarde & Anne
Draycott who married in
1724 at St Martins in
the Fields.
Mrs HARRIOT ARUNDELL was
probably the niece of
the Earl of Strafford.
Born HARRIOT WENTWORTH
she married her first
cousin Thomas Arundel in
1727.
Mrs LUCEY SKIPWITH was
the daughter of Drury
Lane theatre owner Sir
Thomas Skipwith. She is
also mentioned in the
will of Lady Jane Coke,
her mother’s great
niece.
HILLARD HELY probably
should read “Hilliard”
but appears elsewhere
with either spelling.
Probably the same man
who appears in Journals
of the House of Commons
& National Archives (as
Hilliard).
www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.aspCATID=4591268&CATLN=6&accessmethod=5&j=1
mentions him in context
with members of the
GORGES family which
connects with a possible
baptism in 1688, in
Bodenham, Herefordshire,
of Hilliard, son of John
& Meliora (nee GORGES)
HELY.
