The Will & Inventory of Richard Downall

 

In the name of God Amen I Richard Downall of Bold in the county of Lancaster yeoman being sicke & weake in body but of good& perfect memory praised be god doe make & ordaine this my last will & testament in the manner & forme followeing  Impr(imi)s I commend my soule into the hands of Almighty god my maker hopeing by the meritts & passion of his sonne Jesus Christ my onely saviour to be made one of his elect And my body I committ to Christian buriall at the Parish church of Prescott in the place where my ancestors have beene formerly buried And for the goods w(hi)ch god hath lent me in this world my will & mind is that my funerall expences bee discharged out of the whole w(hi)ch done I doe hereby bequeath the rest & residue of my goods then remaining amongsts my six children Roger Downall Will(iam) Downall John Downall Ellen Downall Jane Downall & Mary Downall to be equally devided amongst them excepting the cupboard or table in the house w(hi)ch I give & bequeath unto Thomas Downall my elder sonne whether of the two he shall have most mind of  And for the Messuage & Tenement where I now live I doe herby grant & Assign it over unto Thomas Downall my eldest sonne if he the said Thomas doe or shall pay or cause to be payd the sume of a hundred pounds w(i)thin the space of five teares next after my decease to be devided amongt my six children aforesaid in manner & forme as is hereafter expressed  Imp(rimis) to my youngest sonne John Downall because he wants a trade I give him twenty pounds of this hundred & the other ffourescore my will & mind is shall be equally divided amonst my children Roger William Ellen Jane Mary & John Downall to every one a like share he the said John to have as good a parte as the rest not w(i)th standing the twenty pounds w(hi\0ch I have formerly given him Provided allwayes & my will & mind is that Thomas Downall my sonne shall not enter nor have any thing to doe w(i)th my said Messuage & tenem(en)t untill such time as have payd this hiundred pound afores(ai)d but the issues & profitts there of to be divided amongst my young children former named And if it soe happen that Thomas Downall my eldest sonne shall faile in the paymm(en)t of this hundred pound & doe not pay it w(i)thin the sapce of five yeare as afores(ai)d then my will & mind is & I doe hereby grant & Assigne this my afores(ai)d Messuage & Tenement unto Roger Downall my next sonne he the said Roger Downall paying before such time he shall enter upon it the sume of a hundred pounds to be divided amongst my youinger children as is theretofore expressed  And lastly I constitute & make Roger Downall & John Downall my two sonnes executors of this my last will & testament & Tho: Downall of Suttom my kinsman & Will: Downall my sonne Overseers here of hopeing that they will see all things performed accordingly In Wittnes whereof I have hereunto putt my hand & seale the eleaventh day of June in the Twentieth yeare of the raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles the second Of England Scotland ffrance & Ireland king etc
