The Will of Robert Dowding

 

In the name of God Amen the Twelfth day of August in the year of our Lord God 1715 I Robert Dowding of Kington Magna in the County of Dorset Yeoman being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it and for my body I commend it to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner as to my Executrixes hereinafter named shall be thought meet and convenient. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give, devise and dispose of the same in manner and form following. Imprimis I give devise and bequeath unto my wife Gertrude Dowding the life of all my household goods during her natural life and after her decease unto my daughter Christian Dowding except one chest of drawers which I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Chamberlain. Item I give, devise and bequeath all my lands lying and being in Niland and in Kington Magna and a leasehold estate called or known by the name of Phillips unto my two daughters May and Christian and to their heirs and assigns for ever equally to be divided between them And I do make constitute and appoint my two daughters Mary Chamberlain and Christian Dowding to be joynt Executrixes of this my last Will and Testament to whom I give and bequeath all the rest of my goods not before given after this payment of my debts and funeralexpenses And I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disanul all former wills and testaments by me made and do ratify and confirm this and no other to be my last will and testament . In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written
