The Will of John Dowding
In the Name of God amen I John Dowding of Kington
Magna in the County of Dorsett Yeoman being sick in body but of sound
and perfect mind and memory thanks be to God do make and ordain this my
last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say
Imprimis I commend my Soul into the hands of God hoping through the
merits death and passion of my Saviour Jesus Christ to have full and
free pardon and remission of all my sins and to inherit everlasting life
And my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried according to the
discretion of my Executrix hereafter named And as touching the
disposition of all such temporal Estate as it hath pleased God to bestow
upon me I give and dispose thereof as followeth Item I will that my
debts and funeral expenses be paid and discharged Item I give and
dispose unto my loving wife Gertrude and her heirs forever all that my
new purchased Lands that is to say one pasture ground commonly called
South common close One pasture ground called ..... One arable ground
called Maish ffurlong and one arable more called Goffeland all which
said grounds are situate and being in Kington Magna aforesaid Item I
give and dispose unto my said loving wife Gertrude and her heirs forever
the reversion of all that dwelling house and messuage or tenement
commonly called Laurences Tenament with the Garden Orchards and Barkside
thereunto belonging situate and being in Kingston Magna aforesaid with
all edifices buildings outhouses Lands Meadows pastures commons woods
closes ... hereditaments and appert.... whatsoever to the same belonging
and appertaining or reputed to appertain Item I give unto my brother in
law John Jarratt? the sum of ten pounds of good and lawfull money of
England to be paid within the space of one year after my decease Item I
give unto Jane Gibbins of ffroome Sellwood in the County of Somersett
the sum of ten pounds of good and lawfull money of England to be paid
within one year after my decease Item I give unto William Blowit of
Wincanton in the said County of Somerset the sum of five pounds of good
and lawful money of England that is to say of and for the use of and in
trust for his son William Blowit until he shall attain unto the age of
one and twenty years to be paid within one year after my decease Item I
give unto Mary Andrews of Wincanton aforesaid the sum of two pounds of
good and lawful money of England to be paid within one year after my
decease Item I give unto John Dowding son of my brother Edward Dowding
late deceased the sum of forty pounds of good and lawfull money of
England to remain in my Executrixes hands until he shall attain unto the
age of one and twenty years of age Item all the rest and residue of my
personal estate goods and chattles whatsoever I give and bequeath unto
my said loving wife Gertrude whom I do hereby institute make and ordain
my full and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament And I do
hereby revoke and make void all other Wills by me heretofore made In
witness whereof I the said John Dowding have hereunto sett my hand and
seal this twelfth day of October Anno ... 1702 John Dowding Signed
