The Will of Elizabeth Doegood
In the Name of God Amen I Elizabeth Doegood of
Dorking in the County of Surrey Widow being in good health of body and
of sound and perfect mind and memory (praised be the Lord 461therefore)
but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life renouncing and
revoking all former Wills whatsoever by me heretofore made and published
do make publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner
and form following ffirst I bequeath and yeild up my Soul into the hands
of Almighty God my Creatour that gave it And my body to the earth until
their resurrection hoping by the merits death and passion of my only
Saviour Jesus Christ and by no other means to have remission of all my
sins and to enjoy eternal life in the Kingdome of Heaven And I will that
my body be decently buryed by my Executor hereafter named And as for
such Estate as it hath pleased God to bless me withall in this life I
give and
dispose of the same as followeth (that is to say) Imprimis I give and
bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Oake the Sume of three hundred and
ffifty pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid unto her by my
Executor hereafter named within six months after my decease
Item I give and devise unto my said Daughter Elizabeth Oake All that my
Messuage or Tenement outhouses backside and appurtenances situate lying
and being in the Town of Dorking aforesaid and now in the tenure or
occupation of Samuel Dendy or of his Assignee or Assignees To have and
to hold the said Messuage or Tenement and premises with their
appurtenances unto the said Elizabeth Oake her heires and Assigns to and
for the only use benefit & behoof of the said Elizabeth Oake her heires
and Assigns for ever
Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Rebecca Gosden the Sume of six
hundred pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid unto her by my
Executor hereafter named within six months next after my decease Also I
give and bequeath unto my said Daughter Rebecca Gosden my Lease and term
for years which I have yet to come of and on all that Messuage or
Tenement Barne buildings Close of Land and appurtenances situate lying
and being in the West Street in the Town of Dorking aforesaid and now in
the severall tenures or occupations of William Backshall and John
Edwards or their Assignee or Assignees
Item I give and bequeath unto my Nephew King Pennell the Sume of twenty
pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid unto him by my Executor
hereafter named within four years next after my decease at ffive pounds
by the year the first payment hereof to be made within one year next
after my Decease
Item I give and bequeath all my household goods and other goods (except
the shopgoods) unto my son John Gosden and to my Daughters Elizabeth
Oake and Rebecca Gosden to be equally divided amongst them share and
share alike
Item all the rest and residue of my goods chattles and personall estate
whatsoever (after my debts Legacies and ffunerall expences shall be
fully satisfied contended and paid) I give and bequeath unto my Son John
Gosden whom I make nominate and appoint sole Executor of this my last
Will and Testament And I do desire my loving ffriends Michael Jeale of
Dorking aforesaid Yeoman and William Bothell of Dorking aforesaid Tallow
Chandler to be Overseers of this my Will and to aid and assist mine
Executor and I give unto each of them one guinea of gold over and
besides their charges and expences in and about this my Will In witness
whereof I the said Elizabeth Doegood have to this my last Will and
Testament set my hand and Seal the six and twentieth Day of July in the
tenth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord William the Third by the
grace of God of England Scotland ffrance and Ireland King Defender of
the faith etc. et Anno Dm One thousand six hundred and ninety eight Eliz
