The Will of Anne Eyre Dixon

 

Notes of Beneficiaries etc.....From The Will of Anne Eyre Dixon of Middleham , widow.

 

Benficiaries were -

 

To ANN wife of CHRISTOPHER TOPHAM Esq of Middleham all my household furniture plate linen glass china books pictures wearing apparel carriage horses and wine belonging to me, for her own use.

Also to my daughter ANN all my land and real and personal estate in the State of Virginia, the City of Washington and elsewhere in the United States of America to which I am entitled by virtue of the last will and testament of my late revered father RICHARD SMITH Esq for ANN ..... free from the control debts or engagements of the present or any future husband , but with charges on by JOHN WARDER, JEREMIAH WARDER and JOHN HEAD WARDER of the City of Philadelphia, merchants, in respect of a tract of land in Virginia.....

My late husband JOHN DIXON Esq made a will the 14 November 1833 and left £300 to be paid out after my decease, I now appoint the £300 to my cousins FRANCIS ATKINSON of Threadeneedle Street in the City of london, stockbroker and GEORGE ATKINSON of Church Court, Lothbury in the City of London, gent, as trustees for my daughter ANN TOPHAM.

To my grand daughter ANNE MARTHA TOPHAM a very good and handsome gold watch with a gold watch chain and seals to be purchased out of my money at a cost of 100 guineas when she is 15 years old. To my much respected and esteemed son in law CHRISTOPHER TOPHAM a handsome Diamond mourning ring or diamond shirt pin to be purchased to the value of 25 guineas....

I hereby appoint FRANCIS ATKINSON and GEORGE ATKINSON as executors with a legacy of £25 ....

19 October 1839

 

witnesses William Handley of Middleham, gardener, late servant in the family ; Isabella Handley, his wife ; Mary Hopps, servant to Mrs Dixon.

 

On 12 November 1840 Francis Atkinson appeared and was sworn etc and the goods and chattels did not at the time amount to £1,200

 

The personal estate and effects of this Testatrix were afterwards found to exceed £1,500 but were under £2,000
