WILL OF RALPH DELL
of (Stratford-le-)Bow, Middlesex, England
Dated 5 Apr 1641, Proved 11 Dec 1646
In the name of God Amen I Rafe Dell
Citizen & Clothworker of London nowe dwellinge at Bowe in the
County of Midd beinge sick in body but of good & pfitt memory
thanks be therefore giuen to Almighty God doe make & declare
this my last will & Testamt whereby I recommende my
soule to God That gaue it hopinge by & throughe the death &
passion of mine onely Sauior & Redeemer Jesus Christ
to haue full remission of all my sins & to see the Lord in the
land of the euerliuinge. And my body to be decently buried at
the discretion of my Executrix hereafter named. And as
touchinge the disposition of such temporall estate as God hath
blessed me wth all in this life, I giue & bequeath
the same as followeth first I will that all my psonall estate
shallbe indifferently appraised & after my debts paid &
funeralls discharged I hauinge
noe child doe will that the same be accordinge to the
lawdable Custome of the Cittie of London deuided into two equall
pts, One equall pte where of I leaue accordinge to the same
Custome vnto my Louinge wife Elizabeth & that shee shall haue my
plate & howsehold stuffe as pte of her said equall pte in halfes
of my estate And the other equall halfe pte of my estate
reserued to my selfe I giue & bequeath as followeth first I
giue & bequeath towarde the Releife of the poore of Bowe
aforesaid fiue pounds to be distributed at the discretion of my
Executrix & of the churchwardens & ouerseers of the poore Item
I giue & bequeath vnto Rafe Dell & John Dell sonnes of my
Brother John Dell one hundreth pounds apeece & I will that from
the time they shall receiue the same they pay vnto their said
father after the rate of fiue in the hundred each of them
quarterly by euen portions duringe the naturall life of their
said father Item I giue to George Dell one other of the sonnes
of my said Brother John Dell fifty pounds to be paid him at his
returne from sea for the wch he shall allow to his
father after the rate of fifty shillings paid quarterly by
equall portions. Item I giue to my sister Mary forty shillings
for a Ringe And to my sisters Elizabeth Ellen & Johan to each of
them one hundreth marks apeece To my cozen Anne Baraclow of
Hackney wife of Richard Baraclow the summe of fifty pounds wch
is owinge vnto me by him vpon his owne debt Item I giue &
bequeath vnto & amongst the children of the said Richard the
somme of one hundreth pounds wch is owing vnto me by
William Conyns? & the said Richard vpon their bond to be paid
into the hands of their said father he puttinge into my
Executrix good securitie for the paymt of the
same to the children equally amongst them as followeth That is
to say vnto his sonns at their seuerall & respectiue age of one
& twenty yeares & to his Daughters at their seuerall &
respectiue ages of one & twenty yeares or dayes of marriage wch
first shall happen And that in such case the receipt of their
said father for the same one hundreth pounds shall be a
sufficient acquittance & discharge vnto my Executrix for paymt
therof agt [against?] his said children & all others Item I
giue to Elizabeth daughter of my said Brother John Dell fiue
pounds & to her daughter Anne Rogers tenne pounds to be paid
vnto her wither? vpon her bonds to pay the same to her said
daughter at her age of one & Twenty yeares or day of marriage wch
first shall happen Item I giue & bequeath vnto & amongst the
Children of John Wright the soe of one hundreth pounds wch
he oweth me soe as he putteth in good security to the likinge of
my Executrix for paymt thereof to his children
equally pte & pte like to the sonnes at their seuerall &
respective age of one & twenty yeares & to the Daughters at
their seuerall & respectiue age of one & twenty yeares or dayes
of marriage wch first shalle happen & this? to be a
sufficient discharge to my Executrix for the same Item I giue
to my Brother John Dell before named Twenty pounds To my
maidseruant Bridget Grin? I giue fiue pounds Item I giue to
John Baraclow the older & to his wife twenty shillings apeece to
buy them Rings Item I guie to the wife of my Cozen Whitinge
ffiue pounds. To my Cozen Ball his children fiue pounds apeece
to be paid vnto the m? Warden? & assistants of the Trinitie
house for thereofe? & to be paid them when they shall be at age
beinge sonnes & being Daughters at their seuerall age of one &
twenty yeares or dayes of marriage wch first shall
happen And I name & ordaine my said louinge wife Elizabeth
Dell full & sole Executrix of this my last will & Testamt
And ouerseers of the same I name & entreat my Louinge friends
Edward Parke and Richard Baraclough of Hackney heartily prayinge
them to be aydinge to my Executrix to see this my will
p(er)formed according to my true meaninge ?? declared & for
their paines herein to be taken I giue vnto them three pounds a
peece to buy a peece of plate And I will that my wife shall haue
the sole distribution of the fiue pounds giuen to the poore of
Bowe aforesaid In witness whereof I the said Raphe Dell haue
herevnto put my hand & seale the fifth day of Aprill 1641 in the
seuenteenth yeare of the Raigne of or Soueraigne Lord
King Charles ?? Raphe Dell sealed subscribed & published by the
said Raphe Dell for his last Will & Testamt in the prsence

Memorandum it was mr Dells will
neere the time of his death that whereas before he gaue to
Elizabeth Ellen & Joane his sisters a hundred marks apiece his
said sisters should haue but forty pounds a peece & the
remaininge fore score pounds to be giuen to Anne Baraclough the
wife of Richard Baraclough of Hackney Witnes hereof Thomas
Newman./
