The Will of Joanna Cribb
1802 Joanna Cribb the mourning widow of Wm Cribb late of Holborn St Giles being now in perfect Mind and Memory do make and declare this to be my last Will and Testament committing my Soul into the hands of a Dear Redeemer who has said God is not God of the dead but of the living my body unto the Earth in humble hopes of a joyful Resurrection in and through a Dear Redeemer it is my desire to be decently but not expensively buried in my family vault in Bunhill ffields by my Executrix herein after named To my son William Obadiah Cribb my Daughter Elizabeth Cribb and my much esteemed and respected friend Apsly Pellett I bequeath all my Effects real and personal Estates houses ffurniture Wearing Apparel and every other property of which I die possessed In trust for Purposes herein after named my Will is that all my just Debts and ffuneral expences be paid as soon as possible after my decease out of the Interest of such Monies as I may leave Item I give and bequeath the Sum of Sixteen hundred Sixteen Pounds thirteen Shillings and four pence 3 per Cent Consols to be equally divided between all my children that is to say my Son Wm Obadiah Cribb of Slarford Hants my Daughter Elizabeth Cribb my Son John Bythewood Cribb of Holborn my Daughter Ann Kent Widow of John Kent late of Newcastle on Tyne my Daughter Joanna Stephens of ??.Chatham Kent my Daughter Mary Catherine Coventon Wife of Arthur Coventon London my Daughter ffrrancis Sarah Cribb I will that the above Sixteen hundred Sixteen Pounds thirteen Shillings and four pence 3 P Cent Consols to be equally divided share and share alike to each and every of them for their own and every use and benefit in full and ??.possession or to their heirs of all or any of them I further will and bequeath to my Son Wm Obadiah Cribb my Daughter Elizabeth Cribb and to my friend Apsly Pellet the further Sum of 2 hundred Pounds now at Interest in the hands of my beloved Brother and Nephew Stephen and John Maberly In trust for the following Uses that is to say my Will is that this 2 hundred pound be settled on the life of my Daughter and Executrix Elizabeth Cribb together with her own share of the Sum of Sixteen hundred Sixteen Pounds 13s 4d 3 p Cent consols left her above I say my Will is that both the above Sums be sunk in the best Annuity for lives such as the Black ffryars or any other they may see best for the sole use and benefit of my said Daughter Elizabeth Cribb for her life and that for her use and benefit only and independent of any husband she may happen to have nor to be liable for any Husbands Debts but for her own use only I further will and bequeath to my Son Wm Obah Cribb my Daughter Elizabeth Cribb and to my friend Apsly Pellot the further Sum of 2 hundred 40 pound this 5 p cent Stock be paid half yearly as reserved by my Trust to my Daughter and Executrix Elizabeth Cribb while she remains in a single state but from the time of her Marriage or death in a Single State my will is that this 2 hundred 40 pound this 5 p cent Stock be divided between my 4 Younger Daughters that is to say Ann Kent Joanna Stephens Mary Catherine Coventon and ffrances Sarah Cribb to be divided equally share and share alike to each of them and their Heirs my further Will is that the remainder 40 Pound 5 P Cent StockI will and bequeath to my Daughter Ann Kent or her Heirs at my death Item I Give and bequeath to my son Obadiah Cribb the small Estate I have at Wareham in Dorset as described in the Writing now in his Hands the Will of my late Dear Husband giving me no power (that I know of) to dispose of it in any other way I only mention it that I may have every thing clear and explicit Item I Give and bequeath to my Son John Bythewood Cribb the Lease of the House in Holborn occupied by my late Dear Husband which Lease my son John B Cribb now has in his Possession which I have promised to assign over to him but hitherto has been neglected to be done therefore I now mention it Item my Will is that my Wearing Apparel be divided by my Executrix within 3 months after my decease in equal shares as may be between herself my Executrix and her 4 younger Sisters or the Survivors or Survivor of them Item my Will is that all my Silver Table and desert Spoons to be equally divided between my 4 Younger Daughters or the Survivors or Survivor of them Item I Give and bequeath half my family Linen that is to say half my Sheets Table Cloths and Towels to my Daughter ffrances Sarah Cribb Item I will and bequeath my Gold Watch that Miss Dore left me to my Daughter Mary Catherine Coventon Item I will and bequeath the Gold Watch I now Wear to my Daughter Elizabeth Cribb
Item I will to my Son Wm Obadiah Cribb my Mourning
Ring for my late Dear Husband I Give to my Son John B Cribb my Mourning
Ring for the late Mr Leader out of my Rings that will be found by me I
give to each of my 5 Daughters a Ring each to chuse according to
Seniority
Item all the rest and residue of Money or Monies
Household ffurniture Plate and every thing not herein named or disposed
of I give will and bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth Cribb as Residuary
Legatee Lastly I constitute and appoint my Son Wm Obadiah Cribb my
Daughter Elizabeth Cribb and my esteemed friend Apsly Pellet all above
named as my Executors and Trustees of this my last Will and Testament in
case of the death of either of my Executors I beg my worthy friend and
Brother Stephen Maberly to stand Executor in his stead the above I again
declare to be my last Will and Testament written and Signed with my own
hand Joanna Cribb Signed Sealed and delivered as my last Will and
Testament in the presence of the undersigned who Witnessed hereto at my
request
