The Will of Thomas Cowell

 

In the name of God Amen I Thomas Cowell of Bewdley in the County of Worcs Tanner being weake in bodie, but in perfect and good memorie thankes be given to the allmightie God make and declare this mine last will and testament in manner and forme following Imprimis

I give and bequeath my soule into the handes of the allmightie God expecting salvation and life eternall onelie and alone and through the Lord Jesus Christ mine Saviour and redeemer And my bodie I bequeath to the earth from whence it came And as touchinge the temporall estate which the Lord hath lent mee I dispose of itt as followeth

Item I give and bequeath unto the poore of the Towne of Bewdley the sum of ffive poundes of lawfull English money to be distributed unto them at the discretion of the overseers

Item I give unto my ffather Henrie Cowell of Hignall the some of twentie nobles of lawfull English money To be paid within twelve months next after my decease

Item I give unto my sister Anne the wife of Thomas Howell the like some of twentie nobles to be in like sorte paid her within twelve moneths next after my decease

Item I give unto my sister Marie Cowell the like some of twentie nobles to be in like sorte paid her within twelve monthes next after my decease

Item I give unto Mr John Barneston Parson of Kibeford the some of thirteen shillings and foure pence to be payd him upon demande

Item I give unto my sister in lawe Mary the wife of Ellis Arch of Kidderminster Butcher the some of ffortie shillinges of lawfull money

Item I give unto my sister in law Margarett the wife of James Ellis the some of twentie shillinges to be paid her within twelve monethes next after my decease

Item I give unto William Wildey of Bewdley Tanner the some of Tenn shillinges to be paid him within twelve monethes next after my decease

Item I give and bequeath unto Catherine my lovinge wife All the rest of my goods cattell chattels debts and readie money whatsoever my will being performed and ffunerall charges paid And I make ordaine and appointe my said wife to bee my sole Executrix of this my last will and testament Item I desire my loveinge freindes John Soley the elder and Walter Puller to be my overseers and for their paines therein I give unto either of them twentie shillinges apeece Item I revoake all former wills And in testimonie of the truth of this my last will I have hereunto put my hand and seale Dated the twentieth daie of March Anno Domini one thousand six hundred ffortie eight The Marke of Thomas Cowell Sealed and delivered in the presence of us Walter Pooler John Soley Senior The marke of James Venables
