The Will of Martha Cossins

In the Name of God Amen I Martha Cossins
of Redland Court in the Parish of Westbury upon Trym in the
County of Gloucester Widow do make this my last Will and
Testament in manner following ffirst it is my Will and I desire
to be privately interred in the Vault in the Chappel at Redland
aforesaid without Pall Bearers to be there Carry’d by Six of my
Neighbours to each of whom I Give the Sum of Six Pounds to buy
them Mourning I give to my two Brothers and my Sister in Law Mrs
Innys and to my Kinsmen Mr Slade Baker of the City of Bristol
Linnen Draper and and William Morris of the same place Baker
Twenty Pounds each to buy them Mourning Item I give and bequeath
unto Mrs Amy Martin of the said City of Bristol Spinster and her
Neice Miss Elizabeth Martin the Sum of ffifty Pounds each Item I
give to James Morgan my Servant if he be living with me at the
time of my Decease the Sum of ten Pounds and to each of my
Servants who Shall have lived with me at my Decease a Twelve
Month a Year’s Wages over and above what Shall be then due to
them and to each of such Servants who shall not have lived a
year with me at my Decease half a Year’s Wages over and above
what shall be due to them Item I give to ten Poor People of the
said Parish of Westbury upon Trym to be nominated by my Executor
hereafter named the Sum of five Pounds each to be paid in such
manner and at such times as my said Executor shall think proper
Item I give to the Infirmary Hospital in Bristol the Sum of One
hundred pounds to be paid out of my Personal Estate not
restrained by Law from being given to Charitable Uses Item I
give to Miss Martha Baker Daughter of Mr Slade Baker of the City
of Bristol Linnen Draper five hundred pounds my Diamond Earings
my four Diamond Stay Buckles and two Diamond Stars and my Gold
repeating Watch and Chain Item I give to her Sister Miss Mary
Baker five hundred pounds my Pearl Necklace with the Diamond
Buckle to it my best Diamond Hook and my Sleeve Buttons set in
gold Item I give to Mrs Ann Morris Wife of Mr William Morris of
Bristol Baker my Diamond Hoop Ring my Plain Gold Watch my Gold
Sleeve Buttons my Sable Tippet and Muff Rose Diamond Hook and
also the Sum of three hundred pounds Item I give to her Daughter
Miss Ann Morris three hundred pounds and to her Sister Miss Mary
Morris the Sum of three hundred pounds Item I give to my
Kinswoman Miss Martha Day four hundred pounds Item I give to my
Mrs Elizabeth Bowen Widow of my late Nephew Andrew Bowen two
hundred pounds and to her Daughter Miss Elizabeth Bowen the Sum
of two hundred pounds Item I give to my Godson Doctor Henry
Harrington of Wells in the County of Somerset One hundred Pounds
Item I give to my late Servant Ann Lowe during her Life one
Annuity or yearly Rent Charge of Ten Pounds to be paid by my
Executor out of my Residuary Personal Estate And my Will and
desire is that if any or either of the Legatees hereinbefore
named shall be displeased with the Legacies hereby to them given
they will shew such their displeasure by Suffering the Legacys
so given to Sink into my Residuary Personal Estate Item I give
devise limit direct and appoint all that my ffreehold Messuage
or Tenement and Premises with the Appurtenances at the West End
of Saint Pauls in London adjoying to saint Pauls Cathedral now
in the Occupation of Mr Hopkins to Slade Baker the Younger
Son of the said Slade Baker hereinbefore named and to his Heirs
and Assigns for ever subject nevertheless to the Estate for life
which Mr ffancis Hurley will have therein under the Will of my
dear late Husband deceased Item I give and bequeath all those my
Leasehold Messuages or Tenements and Premises at the West End of
Saint Pauls which are held by Lease or Leases under the Lord
Bishop of London and are now in the Occupation of Messrs Wilson
and Thornhill to William Morris Son of the before named William
Morris his Executors Administrators and Assigns for and during
all my Estate Term and Interest therein to come Item I give
devise and bequeath unto my Brother Jeremy Innys Esquire All
that the Mansion House at Redland aforesaid called Redland Court
wherein I now dwell together with the Houses Outhouses Courts
Gardens Orchards Wildernesses and other the Premises thereunto
belonging and also all and Singular the Household Goods
Implements of Household and Pictures therein being at the time
of my decease the Plate and Linnen ffurniture excepted and also
all other the Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments which
my late Husband had and Purchased of and from Mr Gregory Martin
deceased or which did belong to him and also One Close of Ground
called the Castons except always out of this devise two Closes
of Ground called Kendall Meads lying in the way from Bristol
aforesaid to Redland Court aforesaid To have and to hold the
said Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments Household Goods
and ffurniture with their Appurtenances except as before
excepted unto and to the use of the said Mr Jeremy Innys and his
Assigns for and during the Term of his natural Life and from and
immediately after his Decease I give devise and bequeath all and
Singular the said Mansion House Messuages Lands Tenements and
Hereditaments Household Goods and ffurniture to my Brother Mr
John Innys To hold to him and his Assigns for and during the
Term of his natural Life and from and immediately after his
Decease I give devise and bequeath the said Mansion House
Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments Household Goods and
ffurniture and Premises (Except as before excepted) to Mr Jeremy
Baker son of the said Mr Slade Baker his Heirs Executors
Administrators and Assigns respectively for ever Item I give and
devise the said two Closes of Ground called Kendall Meads and
all other my ffreehold Messuages Lands Tenements and
Hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever and whereof I may on
any ways die Seized unto my Brother John Innys Esquire his Heirs
and Assigns for ever Item I give and bequeath to my said Brother
John Innys all and Singular my Plate Linnen ready Moneys
Securities for Money and all other my Goods Chattels Effects and
Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever To hold to the said
John Innys his Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns and I
do hereby nominate and Appoint the said John Innys Executor of
this my Will and do revoke all former Wills by me made and do
declare this to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof
I the said Martha Cossins have to this my last Will and
Testament contained in these four Sheets of Paper affixed
together to the three first thereof Set my hand and to this
fourth and last my hand and Seal this Twenty fourth day of
September in the Year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and
Sixty One Martha Cossins
