The Will of John Cooke

 

In the Name of God Amen I John Cooke of the Towne of Brighthelmstone in the County of Sussex Marriner being at this present time in bodily health and of a sound Disposing Mind Memory and Understanding God be praised doe by Divine Permission make Publish and Declare these Presents to containe and be my only Last Will and Testament as followeth Imprimis I commend my Soul unto Almighty God that gave it hopeing in and through the Meritorious Death and Passion of my blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to inherit Eternall and my body I commit to the Earth or Sea as it shall please God to decree And as for and concerning all my Worldly estate I give devise and bequeath as followeth And first I desire that all such Debts which I shall justly owe or be indebted in at the time of my decease shall be fully paid off and Discharged together with the Expences of my ffunerall Item All the rest residue and remainder of my Estate both reall and personall of what nature kind or Quality soever the same shall or may consist in I hereby fully freely and Absolutely give Devise and bequeath the same and every Part and Parcell thereof unto my Welbeloved Wife Jane Cooke and to her Assignes for ever And I doe make name and Appoint my said Wife Jane Cooke to be Sole Executrix of this my Will And I hereby revoke Countermand and make void all former Wills Codicils and Testamentary Writings by me in any Wise heretofore had made committed done or suffered And do Ordain this to be my only Last Will and Testament In Wittness whereof I the said John Cooke to this my Last Will and Testament have Set my hand and Seale the Six and Twentieth day of January Anno Domini 1702 and if the ffirst year of the Reigne of her Majestie Queen Anne over England (John Cooke) Signed Sealed published Declared and Delivered by the said Testator for and as his only Last Will and Testament in presence of Dorothy Holloway, Hannah Best, Wm Holloway Scr dwelling in Shad Thames Southwark
