In the name of God amen the sixteenth day
of February in the year of our Lord 1622. I George Cooke of
Great Crakehall in the parish of Bedale, sick in body but in
good and perfect memory thanks be to god do make this my last
will and testament in manner and form following.
First I
bequeath my soul unto almighty God my maker and redeemer through
whose merits I hope to be saved and my body to the earth from
whence it came.
Item I do give to my son Myles Cooke five
pounds in full satisfaction of his childs portion.
Item I do
give to Dorothie Cooke my youngest daughter five pounds in full
satisfaction of her fillial and childs portion.
Item I do give
to Margaret Cooke my daughter five pounds in full satisfaction
of her portion.
Item I do give to William Cooke my son five
pounds in full satisfaction of his part and portion.
Item I do
give to Richard Cooke my son all my right and title and term of
years in one close in Newton called Haris close after my wife's
death, he maintaining Jenet Cooke my daughter, being an
innocent, during her life.
Item my will is that my son William
Cooke shall not have his portion paid him until the purification
of our blessed lady which shall be in the yeare of our lord god
one thousand six hundred and twenty five.
Item I do give to
Elizabeth West my daughter three pounds six shillings eight
pence, and besides that which she and her husband hath already
received.
Item I do give to my son Richard Cooke three pounds
six shillings eight pence.
Item I do give to my wife Elizabeth
Cooke all my goods moveable and unmoveable .......... my debts
and funeral expences discharged and doth make her my sole and
full executrix of this my last will and testament in witness
whereof I have set my hand the day and year first above written.
