Henry Constantine 1734 of Carlton in
Coverdale, Yorkshire
In the name of God amen I, HENRY
CONSTANTINE of Carlton in Coverdale in the parish of Coram in
the county of York, being in health of body and of sound and
perfect mind and memory, praise be to God for the same, but
being aware of the uncertainty of this life do make and publish
this my last will and testament in manner following. Firstly I
remit and commit my soul ……………..
To be buried at the discretion of my
executrix hereinafter named
For my temporal goods I give and dispose
in manner following, after payment of my funeral expenses and
debts.
I give to my son JOHN his heirs and
assigns the reversion and inheritance of all my messuages,
lands, tenements and hereditaments whatever situate, standing
lying and being within the township village hamlet, fields
precincts(sic) or territories of Gammersgill aforesaid from and
after the death of my sister in law EMMA CONSTANTINE subject to
the following payments thereupon charged.
I give and bequeath to my daughter the
wife of JOHN LODGE of West Witton the sum of £50 to be paid to
her by my executrix within 12 months of my decease which, with
that which I have already given her shall be in full of her
childs portion.
I give and bequeath to my daughters ALICE
and JENNET, each of them the sum of £200 to be paid when they
reach the age of 21 with interest on it from my death which said
interest is to be paid to them at half yearly intervals for
their support and maintenance.
I give and bequeath to my son JOHN the sum
of £600 to be paid to him by my said executrix when he shall
attain the age of 21, with interest on £400 until he attains
the age of 21. If he lives to 21 or, if anyone else claims the
£600, my wife is to receive a payment of £10 per annum, in
default of this payment she is to retain the £600.
If any of my children, ALICE, JENNET or
JOHN shall died before reaching the age of 21 then their share
is to be divided between the survivors, however if any one of
them has children then those children shall receive the legacy
of that person so dying.
I appoint my wife JANE, guardian of my
said daughters and son until they reach the age of 21 years or
be married.
If any debts owing to me become bad debts
through no fault of my executrix then the cost is to be born
proportionally between them all.
I appoint my wife JANE executrix and my
brother in law RICHARD CONSTANTINE of Hebden and also RICHARD
CONSTANTINE son of one other RICHARD CONSTANTINE of Hebden
trustees and overseers.
