In the name of God amen I, HENRY CONSTANTINE of Carlton in Coverdale in the parish of Coram in the county of York, being in health of body and of sound and perfect mind and memory, praise be to God for the same, but being aware of the uncertainty of this life do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following. Firstly I remit and commit my soul ……………..

To be buried at the discretion of my executrix hereinafter named

For my temporal goods I give and dispose in manner following, after payment of my funeral expenses and debts.

I give to my son JOHN his heirs and assigns the reversion and inheritance of all my  messuages, lands, tenements and hereditaments whatever situate, standing lying and being within the township village hamlet, fields precincts(sic) or territories of Gammersgill aforesaid from and after the death of my sister in law EMMA CONSTANTINE subject to the following payments thereupon charged.

I give and bequeath to my daughter the wife of JOHN LODGE of West Witton the sum of £50 to be paid to her by my executrix within 12 months of my decease which, with that which I have already given her shall be in full of her childs portion.

I give and bequeath to my daughters ALICE and JENNET, each of them the sum of £200 to be paid when they reach the age of 21 with interest on it from my death which said interest is to be paid to them at half yearly intervals for their support and maintenance.

I give and bequeath to my son JOHN the sum of £600 to be paid to him by my said executrix when he shall attain the age of 21, with interest on £400  until he attains the age of 21. If he lives to 21 or, if anyone else claims the £600, my wife is to receive a payment of £10 per annum, in default of this payment she is to retain the £600.

If any of my children, ALICE, JENNET or JOHN shall died before reaching the age of 21 then their share is to be divided between the survivors, however if any one of them has children then those children shall receive the legacy of that person so dying.

I appoint my wife JANE, guardian of my said daughters and son until they reach the age of 21 years or be married.

If any debts owing to me become bad debts through no fault of my executrix then the cost is to be born proportionally between them all.

I appoint my wife JANE executrix and my brother in law RICHARD CONSTANTINE of Hebden and also RICHARD CONSTANTINE son of one other RICHARD CONSTANTINE of Hebden trustees and overseers.
