The Will of Elizabeth Constable

 

In the Name of God Amen I Elizabeth Constable Widow of the Parish of Witney in the County of Oxford being but weak in body health but of a Sound Disposing Mind and Memory God be praised but calling to mind the Uncertainty of this Life I do hereby make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament (and I do hereby revoke and make Void all former Wills and Testaments at any time or times heretofore by me made) In manner and form following In the first place I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God beseeching his most gracious Pardon by and through the Merits of my ever blessed Redeemer and my Body to the Earth to be decently interred by my Executor hereafter mentioned and after my Funeral Expences are paid and all my lawfull Debts honestly discharged by my Executor hereafter mentioned As to my worldly Estate it has pleased God to bless me with I then Give and bequeath as followeth In the first place I Give to my loving son John Constable all my Linen and all my Wearing Apparel both Woolen and Linen all and Singular to Defray my Funeral Expences I Give to my loving son Nicholas Constable One Large and One Small Silver Spoon one Gold Ring I Give to my loving Grandson Joseph Constable son of my son John Constable one large one small Silver Spoon one Gold Ring And as to the rest and residue of my personal Estate Household Furniture Goods Cattle Chattles and Money whatsoever and Wheresoever All and singular I give and bequeath between my two loving sons John Constable and Nicholas Constable to be divided in equall Shares share and share alike and my Will and pleasure further is that the Share of my residual Estate coming to my loving son John Constable go to my loving grandson Joseph Constable when he shall Come to Age if his Father can spare it And I do hereby Constitute and Appoint my loving son John Constable sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I do publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament have hereunto set my hand seal this Thirtyth Day of July in the Year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and Fifty five
