The Will of Susanna Comyns

 

This is the last Will and Testament of me Susanna Comyns of the Parish of Barking in the County of Essex Spinster And I make the same in manner following (that is to say) ffirst I resign my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God who gave it And my Body I Commit to the Earth to be Interred privately in the Church at Little Ilford in the said County of Essex after being Carryed thither in a Hearse drawn by Six Horses attended only by two Coaches drawn by four Horses each Whereas I have for very many years last past duly received of the Wardens and Commonalty of the Mistery of Goldsmiths of the City of London One Annuity of thirty pounds granted to me in Consideration of three hundred pounds for a Certain term of years if I should so long live Whereby the Company have been Considerable Losers Now in Consideration thereof and of their very regular and punctual Payments of the said Annuity to me I the said Susanna Comyns do hereby forgive and remit to the said Wardens and Commonalty All such Arrears of the said Annuity as shall happen to be due to me at the time of my Decease And as a Token of my Gratitude and respect to them I give and bequeath to the said Wardens and Commonalty the sum of Nine hundred pounds of Lawfull money of Great Britain for their use and Benefit And I likewise give to the said Wardens and Commonalty the sum of ten pounds of like money to be distributed by the Wardens for the time being so soon after the Receipt thereof as conveniently may be to and amongst ten poor ffreemen of that Company in such Proportions as the said Wardens shall think fit Also I give to the Wardens of the said Company for the time being at my Decease the sum of twenty Shillings each for a Ring And I give and bequeath to Dame Ann Comyns Widow of Sir John Comyns Knight deceased late Lord Chief Baron of his Majestys Court of Exchequer the Sum of ffifty Pounds And to John Comyns of Lincolns Inn in the County of Middlesex Esq the like sum of ffifty pounds Also I give to Thomas Parr of Cheapside London Goldsmith the Sum of two hundred pounds upon trust to pay to his Mother in Law Mrs Mary Tabor the Yearly Interest of the said two hundred pounds for her Life And from and after her Death I give the said two hundred pounds To Mrs Mary Parr Wife of the said Thomas Parr for her own use And in case She happen to dye before her Mother Then I give the said two hundred pounds to the said Thomas Parr from and after the Decease of the said Mary Tabor And I give to my Cousin Richard Comyns of the Six Clerks Office London Gentleman the Sum of One hundred pounds In trust for Mrs Elizabeth Nicholls for her own Sole and Separate use to be paid to her in such manner as She shall require And I Will that her Receipt and Orders for the same shall be Sufficient Discharges notwithstanding her Coverture And that the same be no way Subject to the Comptroll or Incumbrance of her Husband Also I give to Mrs Susanna Symonds Widow the Sum of One hundred pounds and to Mrs Barnard Widow of Rumford in Essex the Sum of ten pounds And to John Parsons my Tenant the Sum of ten pounds and to my Present Tenant Nephew of my late Tenant William Wise deceased the sum of ffive pounds and to my friend Mr Thomas Bankes of Goldsmiths Hall the Sum of ten pounds for Mourning And I will that the said several Legacys be paid within Seven Calendar months next after my Decease And I forgive and admit to Richard Reeves my Tenant all such Rent and Arrears of Rent as he shall happen to owe to me at the time of my Decease And I bequeath to the said Mary Parr All my Household Goods and ffurniture with my Wearing Apparel And after Payment of all my just Debts Legacys and ffuneral Charges I give devise and bequeath All the rest residue and remainder of my Lands Tenements Sums of money Securitys for money Goods Chattells and Estates both real & personal whatsoever and wheresoever unto the said Richard Comyns To hold to him his Heirs Executors Admors and Assigns according to my respective Estates and Interests therein for his and their own proper use and Benefit for Ever And Lastly I hereby nominate constitute and Appoint the said Richard Comyns Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills and Codicils by me made In Witness whereof I the said Susanna Comyns the Testatrix have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and Seale as I have likewise done to a Duplicate hereof this thirteenth day of April in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ffive And in the Eighteenth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God of Great Britain ffrance and Ireland King Defender of the ffaith and so forth
