The Will of Job Colegrave
I Job Colegrave the Elder of Southrop in the Parish of Hooknorton in the County of Oxford Miller declare this to be my last Will and Testament
I
direct that all my just
debts my funeral and
testamentary expences shall
be paid by and out of my
Personal Estate I give and
bequeath unto my Brother
William Colegrave of
Swerford in the said County
Yeoman his executors
administrators and assigns
All and every my Messuages
Mills lands tenements
hereditaments and premises
with their and every of
their appurtenances situate
and being in Southrop
aforesaid in the said Parish
of Hooknorton for the term
of ninety nine years to
commence from the day of my
death Nevertheless upon the
trusts hereinafter mentioned
and subject thereto and the
trusts thereof I give and
devise all and singular the
said Messuages Mills Lands
Tenements Hereditaments and
Premises with their and
every of their appurtenances
unto my wife Mary Colegrave
during her life and from and
after her decease subject as
aforesaid I give and devise
the same Messuages Mills
Lands Tenements
Hereditaments and Premises
with their and every of
their appurtenances unto and
to the use of my son John
Colegrave his heirs and
assigns for ever And I do
hereby declare that the said
term on ninety nine years so
limitted to and vested in
the said William Colegrave
his executors administrators
and assigns do and shall at
any time or times by demise
of the said premises so
limited as aforesaid or any
part thereof to any person
or persons whomsoever for
all or any part of the said
term raise the sum of nine
hundred pounds and pay the
same at the times and in the
manner following (that is to
say) To pay my sons George
William and Thomas Colegrave
the sum of One hundred and
fifty Pounds a Piece at
their respective ages of
twenty one years part of the
said sum of nine hundred
Pounds And to pay them my
said sons George William and
Thomas the sum of One
hundred and fifty Pounds a
Piece residue thereof within
one year next after the
decease of my said wife And
that from and immediately
after the raising and paying
of the said sum of Nine
Hundred Pounds as aforesaid
the said term of ninety nine
years shall cease determine
and be void I give devise
and appoint All that my
Messuage or Tenement Garden
close and premises with the
appurtenances situate and
being in Swerford aforesaid
in the said County now in
the occupation of my son in
Law John Faulkner and myself
unto my wife Mary Colegrave
for her life And after her
decease I give devise and
bequeath the same Messuage
or Tenement Garden close and
premises with the
appurtenances unto my son
Job Colegrave his heirs and
assigns for ever But in case
my son Job Colegrave shall
die before he has attained
the age of twenty one years
and without lawful issue
Then I give devise and
appoint the last mentioned
premises from and after the
decease of my said wife and
of my said son Job as
aforesaid without lawful
issue unto my son George
Colegrave his heirs and
assigns for ever charged
with and I do hereby charge
the same premises with the
sum of forty pounds a piece
to all and every my children
to be paid to them
respectively within one year
next after he the said
George Colegrave and his
heirs shall come into
possession of the said
premises by virtue of this
devise I give and bequeath
unto my daughters Elizabeth
Mary Charlotte and Sarah
Colegrave the sum of one
hundred pounds a piece to be
paid to them respectively at
their respective ages of
twenty one years or days of
marriage whichever shall
first happen Also I give and
bequeath unto my said
daughters Elizabeth Mary
Charlotte and Sarah
Colegrave the sum of one
hundred pounds a piece to be
paid to them respectively
within one year next after
the decease of my said wife
And in case of the death of
either or any of said sons
George William and Thomas
before the age of twenty one
years without lawful issue
And in case of the death of
either or any of my said
daughters Elizabeth Mary
Charlotte and Sarah before
the ages of twenty one years
unmarried Then I direct that
the Legacy or Legacies of
him her or them so dying
shall be paid to all my
children then living in
equal shares and to the
children of such of them as
shall happen to be dead such
children to receive only
such share their father or
mother would have been
entitled I give and bequeath
unto my daughter Ann
Faulkner the sum of One
Hundred Pounds to be paid to
her within one year next
after the death of my said
wife having given her One
hundred and five Pounds on
her marriage All the residue
of my personal Estate and
Effects whatsoever I give to
my said Wife Mary Colegrave
for her own use for ever And
I do hereby nominate and
appoint my wife the said
Mary Colegrave and my
Brother the said William
Colegrave the Executrix and
Executor of this my last
Will and Testament and the
Guardians of my children
during their respective
minorities And further I
will and direct that my said
Trustees his executors and
administrators shall and may
by and out of my estate
reimburse himself and
themselves all reasonable
costs charges and expences
sustained in the execution
of the trust of this my Will
And that he and they shall
not be answerable or
accountable for any loss
which may happen unless the
same shall happen by or
through his or their wilful
default In Testimony whereof
I the said Job Colegrave to
the two first sheets of this
my last Will and Testament
contained in three sheets of
paper subscribed my name and
to the third or last sheet
thereof subscribed my name
and affixed my seal this
eighteenth day of May in the
year of our Lord One
thousand eight hundred and
fourteen This Will was kindly transcribed and sent in by Ros.
