Notes:
Lady JANE COKE was the
granddaughter of Philip,
Lord Wharton and sister
of the first & last Duke
of Wharton. She married
first John Holt, of
Redgrave Hall, Suffolk,
and second Robert Coke,
of Hillingdon,
Middlesex, brother of
the Earl of Leicester,
but had no children by
either marriage.
Miss ANNE FINCH daughter
of the Honourable Mr
EDWARD FINCH – possibly
a daughter of Edward
FINCH, later
FINCH-HATTON, diplomat &
member of the Royal
Household, son of the
Earl of Winchilsea.
Mrs LUCY SKIPWITH was
the daughter of Drury
Lane theatre owner Sir
Thomas Skipwith. She is
also mentioned in the
will of William DRAYCOTT
and was first cousin to
Lady Jane’s mother.
The Honourable Miss
BEAUCLERK Daughter to
the Right Honourable
Lord VERE - possibly
Diana, Anne or Mary
BEAUCLERK, unmarried
daughters of the Earl
of St Albans, or one of
their many nieces. A
nephew, TOPHAM BEAUCLERK,
was briefly engaged to
ANNA MARIA DRAYCOTT
according to ‘Lady Diana
Beauclerk – her Life &
Work’: “Shortly after
leaving Oxford he became
engaged to a Miss
Draycott, but she seems
to have perceived that
he cared more for her
lead-mines than for
herself and broke off
the engagement after the
license had been
procured. Topham,
evidently without much
regret, started soon
after on the Grand Tour….”
ANNA MARIA DRAYCOTT was
the granddaughter and
heiress of WILLIAM
DRAYCOTT and seems to
have lived with LADY
JANE after the death of
her parents and
grandfather. After a
brief engagement to
TOPHAM BEAUCLERK she
married the Earl of
Pomfret and lived at his
family home at Easton
Neston, Northants, and
Sunbury House, Chiswick,
which she inherited from
LADY JANE COKE.
