The Will of Mary Cockram
This is the last Will and Testament of me Mary
Cockram of Worgrett in the County of Dorset Spinster which I make as
follows that is to say ffirst out manner and carried to Church by six
poor men who are to be paid two shillings and six pence each for their
trouble I direct that all my just debts ffuneral expences the charges
and Expences of Proving this my Will be paid and discharged by my
Executor hereinafter named I give and bequeath unto Jane Snook of London
Widow of Joseph Snook and unto all and every of her Children as shall be
living at the time of my decease the Sum of One Guinea each and to be
paid to them as soon after my decease as conveniently may be And I
direct that the receipt of each such Child notwithstanding coverture
shall be sufficient discharge for the same Also I give and bequeath unto
Sarah Ann Snook daughter of the aforesaid Jane Snook a pair of Silver
shoe buckles black silk Cloak dark cotton gown White Stripe Petticoat
and brass Candlestick a small Chair with Rush bottom a yellow tea pot
and two tumbler Glasses Also I give and bequeath unto my Cousin Sarah
Meabey the daughter of my late Uncle Thomas Cockram the sum of five
pounds and to be paid her as soon after my decease as conveniently may
be And I direct that the receipt of my said Cousin Sarah Meabey alone
notwithstanding coverture shall be sufficient discharge for the same
Also I give and bequeath unto the daughter of my said Cousin Sarah
Meabey Provided her Christian name shall be Mary my Silver Watch and
case and in case she shall have no daughter christened Mary then I give
and bequeath my said Silver Watch and case unto my aforesaid Cousin
Sarah Meabey to and for her own use and benefit All the rest residue and
remainder of my household Goods ffurniture Implements of Household Plate
Linen Woollen Wearing Apparel soever I give and bequeath the same and
every part thereof unto Mark Cockram of Stoborough in the County of
Dorset aforesaid Labourer and to all and every of the Children of the
said Mark Cockram also unto John Brinton of East Creech in the said
County Yeoman and to all and every of the Children of the said John
Brinton also unto George Brinton of Morden in the said County Labourer
and to all and every of the Children of the said George Brinton their
Executors and Administrators to be equally divided between them as
Tenats in common And I do hereby declare it to be my Will that my said
Executor hereinafter named shall be charged and chargeable only for so
much monies as he shall actually receive by virtue of the trusts hereby
in him reposed and shall not be answerable and accountable for any
Banker Broker or other person with whom or in whose hands any part of
the said monies shall or may be deposited for safe custody or otherwise
in the execution of the trusts hereinbefore contained and that he shall
not be answerable or accountable for any loss or damage which shall or
may happen by or through his own wilful default And also that it shall
and may be lawful for him with and out of the monies which shall come to
his hands to retain to and reimburse himself all costs charges damages
and expences which he shall suffer sustain or expend in or about the
execution of the aforesaid Trusts or in relation thereunto and also for
his loss of time and labour therein And I nominate constitute and
appoint Robert Dugdale of Wareham in the County of Dorset aforesaid
Gentleman Executor in Trust of this my Will and lastly I do hereby
revoke and make void all former and other Will and Wills by me at any
time heretofore made and do declare this only to be my last Will and
Testament In Witness whereof I the said Mary Cockram have to this my
last Will and Testament contained in two sheets of paper set my hand and
seal that is to say to the first sheet I have subscribed my name and to
the second and last sheet I have subscribed my name and affixed my seal
the ninth day of January in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and twenty two The Mark of X Mary Cockram
